Removing running boards on 04

It does change the look of it for sure but if you’re looking for a big difference go with a leveling kit. Installing mine this weekend.

Pulled mine off in about 10 minutes today. did it blind since the ground was wet. 12mil socket on an electric driver, 6 bolts per side on my 08 SR5.

The brackets that held mine on were pretty rusted out. So, off they came out of necessity, but I think it looks better without them.

Remove them, cut, and cap the wire. Should have no issues if you seal up the end and tuck it away in the frame hole it comes from.

I decided to use the wire and install Rock Lights on either side.
Lights up the whole ground when you walk up and unlock the truck. Even retains the Dimming ON/OFF feature.

Reviving an old thread but I'm curious, how did you mount these? I want to do the same but just looked and short of drilling holes in my frame I didn't see a great spot to mount them.

I did this using one of the middle holes that were used for the running boards. I used theses : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IY3YLCI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They came with some bolts and mounting hardware and nothing else needed to be purchased if you have some electrical tape and zip ties. Play with the mounting till you get them positioned correctly. Took 45 minutes to get them installed. Torque all the bolts on the face of the lights before you install them to keep em watertight; a lot of mine were loose. So far they have been running fine and a nice touch for $14. Remember that the stock wiring will only be there if you had light up running boards. Pm me if you want some pics of how I mounted them

They do kinda look snazzy without the running boards though I am not at all sure I want to deal with the PITA of taking them off...

I really found the running boards to be a nuisance - they mainly just got my pants dirty getting in and out. Then one day during a snowstorm my rear to wheels slide off the road and the running board was bent on the shoulder of the road.

I ended up leaving them on for the extra layer of protection.

It wasn't until I started reading this thread that I actually put thought into how often I used the running boards. I thought not much, but after recalling how often I use my rack and pack the roof while standing on them- it makes me rethink :suspicious:
