removing top for first time

How watertight are the soft toppers? That's my big concern, also how about wind noise at highway speeds?

The water is my concern here in Portland. I don't own a first Gen.......yet......

But whenever I get one, I'll be taking the top off and tossing it.

I will only toss Mine if the softtopper IS WATERPROOF. If it doesn't keep water OUT, I can't envision full time use, and my truck stays in the garage EVERYNIGHT.
So far, nobody with a softop will say whether or not they have leaks or not...... I wonder

I had my softopper on for the summer but never got caught out in the rain. The one time i did it didnt leak one bit. Its made from the same material that the Jeep wrangler uses so i always had full confidence in it.

they are louder than the hard top, I took my top off probably atleast once a week by myself without a lift, so it can be done easily. I only even put 4 bolts back in the top when I put it back on. it allowed the top to flex a little bit. when I first had the truck I had a top on it that cracked because of the flexing. the body of my truck has flexed enough where I saw a good one inch crack between the body and the topper lol

ME TOO, too damn bad I live in the land of daily rain this time of year. Really am.curious about the softtopper, prob have to see one in person before I bite the bullet. I know the runner with NO TOP looks downright BAD AS5SSS

Well guys sorry about this, gotta push it back a bit, they changed my wifey's schedule at work so now my day off she works so i cant get **** done with either vehicle(kid duty allday but i dont mind i love my little boy). Gonna try to have the write up done with on the month. Im itching to do it, and get the truck drivable in drive....not just reverse.

As I don't always have use of my garage

None of mine where different. As mentioned above there is the one that has to be for the rear window to roll down.

I don't know about a "commercial" lift but with a couple of eye bolts, some straps and a 2x4 I can get mine off in about 10 minutes by myself. Once off I just lift it up high enough to drive in the 4Runner or the Accord.

Last time i removed my top the gaskets were getting a little suspect. Then this winter i think i"m getting a leak from the left side behind the driver seat. i was able to get the driver side strip part # 65808-89101 from the dealer but the middle and passenger side are apperently no longer available. part #s 65888-89102, and 65807-89101, any ideas on what to use when i take the top off again.

I'm guessing you'll find something on the weatherstrip aisle at the hardware store a lot cheaper than ordering something from the dealer.

Finally pulled the trigger this morning. My first time removing the top. Did it by myself, but backed up to my 96 GMC P/U, put some scrap cardboard under the edges to protect the paint, and slid it backwards into my truck bed.

Easy job and I'm stoked about the condition of the quarter-paneling after a little soap and water.

Lab much approves as well.... :boink:

Now you need to load up for a day at Oregon Inlet! Wheeling in the sand, fishing, BBQ, and your puppy can play in the water.
