Rental 4runner fun.

Personally....I wouldnt n couldnt do this to a vehicle that i dont own...this is something i would expect from teenagers....

In western Colorado, where I go "off road", all the Jeep trails are old (very old) mining and logging roads put in over a hundred years ago. They are all numbered county roads, "maintained" by the various county governments. Thus, there is no damage beyond what was initially done when the roads were put in by the mining and logging companies.

Mountain mining roads are a little different (not much). Doing laps in desert mud trashes the area. Nothing (well very little) gets maintained in SU. When it gets trashed they close it off, and takes forever to heal, if ever. Whatever the wind can fix, since no rain very little flora growth. Speaking of wind, you know what else is awesome, when someone take a shit and buries it in the desert, guess what happens? The wind blows, TP gets stuck in bushes, excrement dries out and rolls around the primitive campsites, forever.

Just saying, people should save shitty (rowdy, fun, reckless, whatever you want to call it) behavior for rec areas that limit the damage to smaller managed areas. :) You know, you use to be able to drive up to cardiff pass via big cottonwood in the wasatch, epic spring skiing... until people started making their own roads all over the valley bottom.

I heard you can rent 4wd 4Runners from the dealership for around $40-60 a day. That's what my purist traveling buddy does

Well said.

I used to drive up Cardiff Fork. The mining road had been there for well over 100 years at that point. The last time I drove up there was in the early 90's, because as you mentioned it was closed shortly after due to morons tearing up the terrain, instead of just sticking to the long-established 4wd road.
