Replace Diff Breather Plug?

Watched this vid today that showed a TSB I’ve never heard of before. Says...
“The breather plug should be replaced during any differential/transfer case repairs to prevent possible repeat failures. The subsequent use of the original breather plug after a repair has been found to contribute to the failure of the differential/transfer case components. Replace the breather plug when replacing differential/transfer case components.”

Rear Diff Breather Mod - Complete!

Hmm, yeah I would totally believe that they aren't very reliable. the first time i changed the rear diff fluid, the case had negative pressure. i was pretty surprised. i pulled the breather and knocked it around a bit, the thing was plugged with fines. i just extended it up the by the fuel delivery tube.

Does extending the breather with say an ARB kit change this? Would we still need to replace the adapter that the hose snaps into?

Yes, the kit comes with a new fitting.

So are these things not supposed to be one-way valves?

In general they are supposed to be two-way. You don't want negative pressure in your diff, that is what will cause foreign material to be drawn in. If anything, you would want positive pressure but really it should have the same atmospheric pressure as outside of the case.
