im confused.. you said you have a 12w7.. isn't the stock sub an 8". You also said its getting 1000watts.. put also said you have a 250watt monoblock.

did you tap into the wires before or after the stock amp.. if after , that's where your distortion problem is(I believe). Seat bolts are never a good ground. are you getting distortion or electrical interference. 200 hz is way to high for a subwoofer, unless your using it as a mid bass sub. which I assume your not. 80-100 hz is the prime area for a low pass xover.

its just a rule of thumb is all.. you may not get any interference ever,
but it is probable with that location.

After comparing install, i decided I want to wire mine throuhg the stock amp too. ANyone have a link to the 5 pin connector for the amp? I lost it. It's like the 5 pin white box with 4 wires coming off it that connects to amp and the hi level speaker inputs

or better yet does anyone have the multi pin speaker adapter thing left over who used RCAs??

So [MENTION=55237]spoon[/MENTION]y G and I compared installs (like I said n my previous post) and he tapped the speaker level outputs POST FACTORY AMP which led to the second JL amp so the sub was getting doubly amplified. With the gain barely turned up and no bass boost, it sounded pretty bass-y but still clean and tight.

Anyone know if this is safe to do or will it blow out the JL sub?

I was wanting to do this too to get a bit more power out of the sub. CUrrently I used the RCAs in the back of my head unit.

I lost the speaker level input wiring doodad for the amp so I was just going to tap the stock sub wiring harness post factory amp use a line out converter and run RCAs to my JX250 amp and then wires to the sub.

Someone tell me if im going to blow stuff up?? :wow:

I suggest you call crutchfield for the wire harness, usually the authorize dealers have parts, try lookin at sonicelectronix or woofersect also. But if u want to keep the stock jbl amp and want to expand later, i mostly suggest you to use audiocontrol lc6, and also use their eq with it, thats if you want to keep the stock look, add up the numbers of integrating with stock vs just using aftermarket deck and run new rca to the back for subs and extra amp, usually its cheaper. That jl jx amp have an automatic amp input switchig, some amps dont like too much voltage inputed at the rca. If you want louder u need to upgrade the size of the sub, even a 8w7 is plenty for non bassheads.

that went right over my head lol. I called JL the guy just hasn't gotten back to me and it's been a while.

Shortened, i guess my question is will the stock amp + JX250 at minimal gain blow out the JL sub? (the way spoony wired it)

you wont blow the sub, but u might blow the rca input if you use the rca to speaker lead, the only way to blow a sub is when the gain setting of the amp is not matched to the level of the input signal. also which version of the sub will be use, will it b 4ohm on final load or 2 ohm, the final load will tell how much power the amp will push out.

i believe it's 4 ohm.

What would blow exactly? Which RCA?

That;s what i'm worried about - all the LOC say to use pre-amp. but it would be pre one amp, post another.

line output converters have input power ratings too, if too much feed into those itll blow them, so basically if you dont want to buy the jl harness, the option is you use a loc, the jbl amp speaker wire output(high) will send the signal to the loc to convert to rca(low). im pretty sure the guy who is getting distortion is wired incorrectly or gain is not set right. sub wont blow, but the rca input signal on the amp might. the question i want to ask you, are you planing to keep the factory deck forever? think about the long run. but at 175 to the jl sub wont blow, they can handle 200 if you knoe what you are doing.

Planned on keeping this set up. I have factory amp, but every other speaker has been repalced and the HU is alpine.

Who is getting distortion?

I'd love to buy the stupid JL harness but I can't find it anywhere.

wait for the call from jl audio. they do sell parts i think. since you have a deck, why dont you run an rca directly at the sub output on the deck to the jl amp? got the alpine model? the correct way for you is to not use the jbl amp signal for the jl amp, but get it directly from the deck and have to gains right.

I have my JX250 amp wired with RCA to the back of my alpine HU and the sub sounds pretty wimpy, especially compared to the spoony's. I turned up the gain all the way and the bass boost to +12 DB and it still sounds wimpy.

which alpine deck you have? ill walk you through on the setting. usually you alpine users have the sub level 0-15, put the bass and treble to 0, and have the sub level at 7, on the amp gain all down and no boost, crank the deck up till you hear distortion from the speakers and then turn it down a lil, then set the gain on the amp till you hear the sub distort and back off. now set everything back on the deck and leave the sub level at 7 and it should b ok now.

there's no sub setting, the bass treble etc. goes from 0-7 though
