I'm pretty sure I've got a bad fan clutch, it's extremely stiff. I removed the fan & clutch to replace the (broken) fan and my 3 belts. Once I pulled the fan, I tried twisting shaft, and it's very stiff, even when stone cold.
I read one way to test a fan clutch is to stick a rolled up newspaper into the fan of a cold, idling engine. Trust me, if I did that with my old fan clutch, it would turn that newspaper into confetti.
Went to Advance Auto Parts to pick up a new one, $120. Does anyone have any experience with Imperial brand fan clutches? Has a 1-year warranty, and is much less beefy than the original one, see pic below:
I'm going to wait until tomorrow to install this (or return it, and get one somewhere else), I don't want to waste $120 on a part if it's no good.
