Replacement Fan Clutch Questions

Hi Everyone!

I'm pretty sure I've got a bad fan clutch, it's extremely stiff. I removed the fan & clutch to replace the (broken) fan and my 3 belts. Once I pulled the fan, I tried twisting shaft, and it's very stiff, even when stone cold.

I read one way to test a fan clutch is to stick a rolled up newspaper into the fan of a cold, idling engine. Trust me, if I did that with my old fan clutch, it would turn that newspaper into confetti.

Went to Advance Auto Parts to pick up a new one, $120. Does anyone have any experience with Imperial brand fan clutches? Has a 1-year warranty, and is much less beefy than the original one, see pic below:

I'm going to wait until tomorrow to install this (or return it, and get one somewhere else), I don't want to waste $120 on a part if it's no good.

Thanks for your help!

Discount Auto Parts Online - Import Auto Parts -- PartsGeek.com I think has the cheapest price for the Aisin OEM clutch with free shipping. Durk has posted this before. I'd attach the thread, but the head cold I am fighting is making typing a PITA.

Others folks here and on YT have had luck with the Hayden.

From my experience, fan clutches have at the most a dozen year shelf life, then they fail in one way or another and need to be replaced.

I'd return the Imperial and go with OEM if I were in your shoes.

I was just looking into fan clutches myself (for my sister's '97), and you can return that Imperial one at Advance, and then get an Aisin from Advance instead. At least my local store had both. I think they might have to order the Aisin, depending on where you are located.

Torqflo

I see AutoZone has a Torqflo fan clutch for $120, with a lifetime warranty...anyone have any experience w/Torqflo?

Does anyone know what the warranty on a Aisin would be?
