Replacement Key with imobilizer

I recently purchased my 4Runner and it only came with 1 key and no remote. The way I understand it is if I purchase a remote, I have to take it to the dealer to have them program it, which I was quoted $107.00 to do it, seems unreasonable to me, especially seeing how expensive they are.

Anyhow, my key has the imobilizer built in and am curious where and how much it will cost me to get another key. Hopefully I wont have to buy it from the dealer or have them program it.

There are a ton of post about this issue.
First thing first, do you have AAA? If so call them and tell them you lost your key, they will send a locksmith out to make a new one and cover part of the cost.

As far as the remote, I bought mine second hand on CL and programmed it myself, now it's just the lock/unlock and rear window, not the alarm remote.

Everything you want done can be done at a locksmith so call around get some quotes, they should all be similar in price, remember most locksmith out there are a scam, so once again call AAA and see who they recomend in your area, they have very high standards for the contractors they use so you can trust who they send you to.

Good luck
