Replacing fog light bulb

I am trying to replace the fog light bulbs on my 2016 and I cannot for the life of me get access to them.

The owner's manual says to remove 4 screws holding the fender liner in place, and I did so, but the liner will not budge. It looks like I will have to remove a lot, lot more fasteners to get the liner out, but that doesn't seem right. In the manual they just show it peeling back like it's a sheet of rubber.

Anyone done this? Any tips??

Plastic is a little hard, but if you just give it a forceful yank, it will come... Helps to remove the third bolt on the fender too.
Don't forget there's two at the very bottom. Helps to do it on a warm day.

No need to remove the fender liner. What I did was just go from under and reach in with my hands and no problem replacing the bulbs.

Hi vjack,

I just changed my foglight bulbs on Wednesday... the lamp is accessed from underneath the hood just as if you were changing the low-beams. If you stand directly in front of the foglights and push the black plastic splash guard back you'll be able to reach down and twist the bulb's socket housing to remove the bulbs. HINT: ...it's much easier if you disconnect the bulb's wire harness 'BEFORE' you attempt to twist and remove the bulbs; took me about ten minutes to do both!

I also reached up from below on the inside to replace my bulbs with LEDs. It's an awkward angle to turn the back of the bulb but it can be done.
 
Thanks to all who responded. I did manage to get the bulbs out!

I actually found it was helpful to turn the wheels *towards* the side I was working on, contrary to the owner's manual. That gave me much more room to pull the liner back.

Thanks, removing an additional bolt (actually the 4th one up) did help. Unfortunately not a lot of warm days in New Hampshire this time of year, but I did get it.

I couldn't figure out exactly what you meant by this. Did you mean you can reach the bulb from under the vehicle? I couldn't figure out how to do this.

Maybe the fog light shroud changed with the 2014 bumper rev? I tried but there was literally zero chance of me accessing the fog bulbs from the hood side. I could barely get my hand down to touch the shroud, and definitely could not get underneath it.

Oh... could be; I've never been under the hood of anything later than '13!

Did you successfully change the right side fog light on the 2016? My 2016 SR5 4WD owners manual says right side is a dealer job.

Yes I got both sides. Once I figured out how the liner snaps out it wasn't too hard, and both sides were exactly the same. Also like I said above, turning the wheel *towards* the side you're working on gives you a lot more room to work with the liner. (I don't see anything in my owner's manual about one side being a dealer job.)

Oh yeah I see that now. But both sides are identical: I have no idea why they would say the left is OK and the right is dealer-only. And in fact on page 392 the owner's manual shows how to replace the right front marker light, which is accessed the same way.

I would say if you want to replace the fog bulbs yourself you should go for it.

I replaced the stock halogen fog light bulbs with LED bulbs, specifically these ones from XenonDepot. I paid around $100 for the pair during a site-wide promo they were running.

I was a little nervous about what the beam pattern would look like in stock reflector housings but they actually look great. Definitely more brightness, but the bulbs retained the low, wide beam of light that fog lights are supposed to have. My only quibble with those bulbs is that their temperature is 6000K, which is a touch on the blue side of pure white (although not nearly as bad as some headlights you see). I would've preferred something a little more neutral (4000-5000K). But it's not a big deal... overall I am pleased with them.

I ran into questions myself when swapping my foglights with LED's. I didn't have to remove any fender liner though.

I just simply got under the truck on my back. I though I had to unscrew the foglight housing but later was informed that if I pulled the power harness from the back of the light first, the light bulb itself would freely twist right out.

It may be too late for you this round but unless the 2016's have more plastic to seal off the front bumper area it shouldn't be necessary to remove the fender liner.

I know this is an older thread, but I just replaced the bulbs on my '17 Limited. The Limited has a little different body work on the outside, but underneath should be the same. Undo all five bolts on the fender liner and shine your flashlight up there to see the bottom of the bulb. The bolts are different sizes, so keep them in order.

The passenger side has a small shroud around the bulb, but it does not hinder access to the bulb at all from beneath. Easy to lay on a creeper and work up instead of sideways. You must remove the wire plug first, then twist the bulb.

Took me 10 minutes per side, and I'm no mechanic.

Purpose of shroud around right fog light?

I replaced my stick fog lights with some Xenon Depot LED’s today and was wondering if anyone knows what the purpose of the black shroud around the right fog light is. It was a pain to remove and the only reason I can see it’s purpose is because the wheel well has vents on the right side. What’s on the right side to need it??

Dealer told me it was to keep water off the bulb from the tire. Right side inner fender has vents; left does not. Left side does not have the vents because the air intake is only on the right side.
