replacing fuel pump

The pictures explain what the dealer told me today. They don't call it a fuel pump replay, they call it a circuot opening relay. Not sure what the distinction is, other than name. But this makes sense to me for the most part, thanks.

The dealer suggested I run 12 v directly to the pump and see what happens. They think the pump is fine but they said the pump's ground connection in the tank is what usually goes bad.
 
so did you get this figured out? i'm leaning towards a fuel pump issue in my rig now and am thinking about replacing it. I've always had Long cranking times when starting cold (since the day i bought her) somtimes when warm too, and now am getting P0171 codes all the time, already replaced MAF, and have good vacuum.... so fuel delivery is next....
