Replacing just the wiper arm spring

I live in a place where every night a thick layer of ice forms on the windshield. So for months I leave my wiper arms up so my windshield wipers don't get frozen to the glass.

If this weakens the springs over time (like some people claim), is it possible to replace just the springs and not the whole wipe arm?

Has anyone done this and know the spring size I should look for?


The only spring I know of is the one in the hallowed out area in the wiper arm.

Didn't realize our wiper arms were saints...

I very seriously doubt this is the case. I know from messing with the rear arm a bunch lately there is definitely no way to replace that one without having to do some pretty interesting small scale fabricating (at the least you would have to still out and replace the rivet that serves as the picot axle) and that's assuming you can find a spring that matches close enough.

I would just replace the entire arm if your springs are weak. I never had a wiper spring go bad. I only had rear arms seize up. I live in the rust belt and been working/ hobbying on Toyotas for over 30 years.

I guess they can fatigue.. However, frost can really stick. This is why we use ice scrapers to throughly clean the windshield before driving.


Nothing destroys wiper blades faster then running them across a frozen windshield..

they are only like $40-50 if you watch, sure you can find a decent price.
