Replacing radiator

I just recently picked up a 2000 4runner that prior to my buying it had a decent amount of maintaince done to it. I'd like to continue with preventative maintaince and replace the radiator and get a b&m trans cooler as well.

When looking at the radiator today I noticed there seems to be two of them. Why 2? Do both components get replaced? What is the function of each?

Secondly any tips or advice for replacement radiators and the b&m cooler as well as install tips.

I doubt there are two radiators.. What you're seeing is probably an external cooler. Got a pic? There are multiple dozens of threads on here about replacing radiators and what brand is good. My suggestion is to start doing some research.

It shouldn't have two. Are you maybe looking at the A/C Condensor? As stated above, take a picture and we'll help you get it sorted out.

Good move on both the new radiator and doing a separate trans cooler. It's the only way you can guarantee you'll never get the pink milkshake. And after 13 years, I'm sure a new radiator will keep it cool. People seem to lose sight of that fact the radiators main function is to keep the engine cool.

You may be confusing the AC condenser as a second radiator.

I searched and that's why I'm pursuing to make some changes. From my search I found most are going with a koyo rad and b&m cooler. Install seems pretty easy and there is even a write up.

I'm simply looking for quick pointers to gather rather than pulling info from a billion older threads.

Just ordered the koyo a1998 and B&M 70268.

approx how much ATF will I need to buy and use with the NEW radiator and cooler?

I doubt you'll even lose a quart of ATF. I'd recommend doing a full cooling system flush and replacing the thermostat though with the new radiator. Just good measure. Buy two gallons of Toyota Red coolant. Mix with distilled water.

Thermo was replaced by previous owner like 10k miles ago and also has new fluid. I'm assuming ill replace the new fluid sense I'm sure it's cheap. What is the approx mixture rate with the water?

Once you have the old rad out before you put the new one in is the time to zip tie the cooler to the condenser.

Ok wow so toyota red ain't too cheap at about $25 a gallon. If I need 2 gal then can I reuse the current coolent sense it was fairly recently replaced?

usually one gallon of coolant, then fill the empty bottle up with water and keep adding until the system is full and bled. this ends up with the ideal 50/50 mix.

Never understood why people buy two gallons of premixed. (I know that's not what was posted above, just to clarify.)
