Replacing the Stock JBL Synthesis Radio & Sub-Woofer, while keeping the Stock Amp

Good luck finding the Kicker, it seems to have either been discontinued by Kicker or is just really hard to find now. The Fosgate is easy to procure by comparison.

Honestly, comparing apples to apples, the Kicker should provide a little more punch due to the fact that it is of a traditional design (not a shallow mount) and has a larger magnet with more power capacity. But, the Fosgate should be easier to install, and it is only 1.5 dB less loud at RMS, which in real world terms is almost not measurable. Kicker probably gives lower frequency response, because it is not a shallow-mount speaker. You may be giving up a small amount of low end in exchange for ease of installation.

Any after-market sub would be a huge improvement over the stock OEM JBL speaker in my opinion.

As far as what speaker "sounds better", that is up to the listener. Music and sound quality, in general, are both highly subjective. Some people like booming bass that you can get from a ported box. The stock Toyota box is sealed, so you will get more accurate "tight" bass. I'll bet if you tried both Subwoofers in the same box, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

I love the idea of keeping all the existing wiring / enclosure and the JBL amp if that's not a problem.

The Rockford on AMZN is about $150, this Pioneer is currently $65 and sounds like it's a perfect drop in fit for 4Runner. May have to do this.

Done and done. Took me a few hours but I think it looks awesome. Kept stock system just replaced HU. One day I'll pull it all out and do a complete replacement but this works for now. Only issue is the PAC SWI-RC isnt working so I gotta figure that out. Won't program keystrokes.

Nice! Do you have the stock remote camera and if so, does it work with this head unit?
