Retro HID.........07 Civic, T4R next

I've had my 4Runner for just about over a year and have done only a few mods. One of the mods I'm very interested in is a RETRO HID projector. My wife uses "my" 4R as her DD, so I thought it would be a good idea to first try them on "my" DD, a 2007 Honda Civic EX sedan. I drive about 100miles/day and during the winter, especially on the drive home, my driving is at night.......mostly. The headlights on my Civic are average at best. ............ehhh, ok, I'll stop trying to justify this mod, it's just plain cool. BUT, we are talking about lights which is nothing to sneeze at, at least not in my book. I wanted to do this mod the RIGHT WAY. I'm a handy guy, I love to DIY, but doing a retro is an endeavor the pros should handle. Beside, I know I'll screw up the first couple of times and doing a retro isn't cheap. Neither is sending them to be done, but I don't mind paying for a job well done.

After I evaluate these lights, I'll move on to doing my 4Runner.

Projector: RX330
Lens: TSX clear
Shrouds: "not named yet, brand new shrouds"
HID: 4300K, low beam
Ballast: Lightwertz digital Ballast
Harness: Custom for PnP

I can't wait to install them!!! It all looks PnP. I'll take pics and post them. Because my wallet is still bruised, I'll hold off (for a couple of months) on doing a retro on my 4Runner.

Here we go..... all stock..... BORING

Once I got the bumper off, I found a place to mount the ballast.

All zipped tied, connections made and taped up.

Same for other side.

Throw it all back together. Even turned off, they look awesome!

Turned on....... of course I tried them BEFORE I remounted the bumper.

Beams are VERY LOW, but I eventually aimed them higher. The cut off is sharp!! Nothing beats a RETRO!

updated PICS. Wall reflection and some light leak

Noticed some light leak behind the bulbs when I installed them, didn't think much of it, until it dawned on me that some water getting in there would be disastrous. If anyone has gone through this, let me know what you did! Could be nothing?? Sorry, I'm OCD on my cars.....

so the expose light behind the projector is bothering you, i would ask lightwerkz for a boot that can cover it up.

Congratulations on having the sense to do it right. I had Caesar put FX-Rs in my 4R last fall, and what a set up! Cut off and spread is fantastic, with a beautiful blue line at cutoff.

I just put FX-Rs in the wife's '10 CRV last week. Finding room for Lightwerkz' big ballasts was a PITA on the V, compared to my 4R.

Other people who have the same setup haven't done a thing and they are going for months/years without issue. Putting a "boot" on there will block up a slit that is there for cooling purposes so I'll leave it alone.

Thanks! So you have 2 vehicles and went with Caesar? Nice! I want to do my 4Runner, but money is tight now. Have you had any issues so far? From what I've researched, pretty much everyone who went with him haven't had any issues.

Yes. I was so pleased with the FX-Rs in my 4R, that I had the wifey's CRV done too.

No issues.

Will you do Bi-Xenons? I did, and kept the Halogen high beams - rocks! If you do this, upgrade the HB bulb to something nearer 4300K.

Are you going to buy spares to send in for retrofit?

I like the light of a high beam with Halogen b/c the beam is "everywhere" and flashing with halogens causes no issues (seems like the jury is still out on that one...........some say flashing is very stressful to the ballasts, some say no). So you have BOTH HID and Halogen hi beam?? The light must be INSANE!! I like it! I may go that route!! Hard to tell from your small avatar, but what shrouds did you go with?? I was looking at getting the gatlin gun shrouds (they look similar to the HVAC buttons), but we'll see how the wallet recovers
