Retrofitting limited seats into other trim models

Ordered a 2016 Trail Premium but curious as to if anyone has attempted/completed a retrofit of the heated and cooled Limited front seats. I'm interested in attempting this but was hoping that someone that has gone before me could share some insight.

It can be done but with the limited leather seats, you'll need to obtain the L & R electrical harnesses beneath the seats, the heating temperature dials (console), and the wiring sub-harnesses from the fuse box to the intermediate seat harnesses; seems like a extensive list of parts to purchase, especially when you're getting a new vehicle anyway!

Additionally, you'll forfeit your factory warranty; I lost my warranty when I simply added a pair of PIAA foglights to my bullbar... any issue that I had with my truck after that point, the dealer blamed the trouble on my aftermarket fogs. Something as simple as a squeak or rattle underneath the chassis was blamed on my A/M foglights!

Why not just order heated/cooled leather seats with the the new truck?

I'm not so much worried about the heating/cooling aspects of the seats, I just like the look of the brown leather. I'm more interested in whether the upholstery will fit on to my existing Trail seats. All the electrical could be added later down the line if I felt it was necessary.

That's bullshit. The dealership has to be able to prove 100% that whatever issue you're having was caused by the modification. Otherwise them refusing warranty work is illegal.

The heated/cooled seats aren't an option for the Trail Premium or this would simply be an academic discussion. Sourcing the other components aren't the issue to me, it's the concern of running into other unforeseen issues in the process. Odds are that the wiring harnesses are more similar than most expect and that other than the different seats and controls, my only serious concern is the occupancy sensors to ensure that the airbags fire correctly when needed. Hopefully I can use my TIS software to diagnose that when needed.

Have to agree here, adding something as pedestrian as a pair of accessory driving lights should have nothing to do with any warranty issues unless the person you had wire them for you did so in such a way that they exercised zero care or caution and severely damaged something electrical in the process. As to their presence voiding a warranty claim for noises underneath the truck, I think that at least one party involved is unaware of how the Magnuson-Moss warranty act works to protect consumers in the United States.

I have taken my current Tacoma and my past 4Runner in for warranty issues and both have been heavily modified prior and never once had I been refused because of those modifications. Alternately, I have never complained about issues that arose from the installation and use of those modifications either.

Katskinz can match the factory brown leather for FAR less than buying from Toyota.

I have a 2016 SR5. I had the Katzkin leather installed and they perfectly matched the Limited leather down to the perforation and stitching. I also purchased their heated seats option and had the switches installed in the center console blanks. Turned out very nice; the leather quality is excellent and I would do it again. Includes a 36k warranty.

Would have to reupholster the new heated/cooled seats to match the black Trail Premium interior but I agree, Katskinz makes a great product.

Trail Premium comes with heated seats, it's the cooled feature that I'm after.
