reuse wiring harness for radio

gonna put in a new aftermarket stereo. Without taking the current one out, can I most likely reuse the wiring harness?

previous person put in a pioneer single DIN. I'm putting in a double DIN unit.

The vehicle side of the harness is going to be reused.

The DD unit should come with it's own harness.

Now, there is an adapter that is needed for the stock harness to the aftermarket radio, and, AFAIK, those are all the same.

SO, you *SHOULD* be able to use the adapter harness that is plugged into the stock radio harness, to go to your new DD unit.

I was under the impression I needed the Metra 70-1761 harness lots of people on here use. However, if that's already on there, then I though I'd splice wires to the new unit.

You got it. That's what you should do.

If you have an aftermarket radio, as long as the PO didn't just cut and splice wires, you *SHOULD* have that harness in there already.

I would buy the harness and in the event that it's there return it. Nothing worse than ripping your dash apart to find out you need another part.

It's like less than 10 dollars, and if amazon sells it, they are really good at returns. I.e. you might not even have to unpackage it, just tape a new label on it and you've got your money back.

All aftermarket decks use the same connector so you should just unplug the single din and plug it into the double din.

I don't get it. Takes about 10 minutes tops to see if the harness is there, and don't you have to pay return shipping? Seems like a waste of time and money to me.

The plug in the deck? Yes they are universal unless you are talking about something I never seen....they also use the same color wiring across the board. These plug and play harnesses are the same on deck side but different on the car wiring side.

You are absolutely wrong. The wire colors are the same, but the plugs are different by manufacturer of the HU.

You are right I stand corrected. Not sure what I was thinking when I typed that. The wire colors are universal and the deck will come with its correct plug already so you can just splice the deck wiring and the jumper harness together by matching up colors without having to cut into your factory harness. Been a minute since I messed with any aftermarket radios but I totally remember that now. Thanks for clearing it up audio guru.
