Reverse Light Add on

So I added 2 LED on the back of the 4Runner for better visibility when backing out, I meant for them to only turn on only when I put the car on Reverse but they are on all the time ... I connected them to the Trailer hitch wiring using T-Taps, I saw somewhere on here that;

White is Ground
Black was the Reverse light

any idea where I did wrong?
did i messed up the colors?

Why not just connect them with the reverse lights in the tail lights?

I figure since the cables on the hitch were closer less wiring needed to be done

Black is constant 12v , always on with key on.

Pretty sure it's yellow wire to trigger reverse. At least it is on mine.
I ran my aux reverse lights wiring to the tail light housing, I found it to be a cleaner and easier install .

Not to go off thread here - but do you mind taking a picture of your LED lights' placements? Interested to see where you placed 'em - I'm meeting with a local shop for consult on lighting install for my 10" light bars and pair of dually lights

Cheapo mount

I didn't want to start punching holes to run wires so I spliced into the
7-to-4 wire adapter I use with my trailer. The small 3-LED lamp was the original but didn't cut it. I added the u-bolt and bar stock bracket with the Amazon LED about a year ago. It sits low enough it doesn't blind people in parking lots but still throws plenty of light behind.

I attached a pic so you can see where i put the lights. It pretty much the same spot everyone else puts them. I was thinking about getting cubes and making them flush in bumper but with 3 jobs it a little hard to make time to work on the runner

Spliced mine into the tow harness. White is negative, Yellow for positive...in the harness.
If you spliced it pre plug harness...use a 12v circuit tester or back track the wire from the bottom picture, from the plugs.
