Reverse Light Mod – SR5 Factory bumper & Rigid SR-Q

Diffused SR-Q's are what were used. Diffused lens disperses light in almost 360 degrees which is good to illuminate items that are above say window level. Whereas fog lens will disperse light wider, lower, and illuminate ground objects a little brighter. Either way you can't go wrong!

Just to clarify, lights are wired into trailer reverse light circuit and turn on whenever vehicle is shifted into reverse. AOB switch is connected to a 12v battery feed then to relay, depressing switch (truck on/off) energizes reverse light circuit turning on factory lights as well as SR-Q's. I find it very helpful hooking up my trailer or when loading 4 wheelers at night.

So how exactly did you connect to the reverse lights and your switch? I saw where you tied into the trailer part, but i'm unsure what approach to take in order to connect it to my switches up front.

Hope this helps................

Relay terminals;

#30 - Fused 12v battery (+) feed (all time power). Also connect AOB Green wire with 3 amp fuse to this feed.
#85 - Ground (-)
#86 - Connect Red wire from AOB switch (will send 12v to relay when switch is depressed/turned on) energizing relay.
#87 - Output to reverse light circuit. Run wire from terminal to factory reverse light wire (red) at ECM as pictured below. ECM is located behind lower driver side knee bolster.

Didn't have a picture of connection, but [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] had a good one in his build thread.

As always, test wires for proper operation prior to making any connection!

Okay, that does help a lot actually. The problem i run into is that i am trying to figure out how to wire this into my aux fuse block. I have a Bussmann with the 5 relays and 10 fuses.

This is how the box is wired:

I planned to terminate the Rigid wiring harness with a connector that i have so the power and ground can be plug and play off a pre-built accessory cable on the Bussmann.

From there, it connects to my OTRATTW switches via this cable:

Is there anyway to do that, or would i have to splice into the wire on the Bussmann that connects to the 87 terminal relay?

Okay, so let me see if i got this. If i run a jumper between the Factory Reverse Light wire (red) and the wire on my accessory cable that is going into terminal #87 on the relay, then i should be good? My Rigids will turn on when i go into reverse and when i toggle my switch on? Sorry, electrical noob in training.

Instead of using two switches, I would just use two SPST switches. The other thing that I've seen is people using a diode on the jumper from the OEM reverse lights and the relay.

You certainly can use schematic posted, but the easiest way IMHO would be to tie Rigid lights into trailer harness, then run wire from Bussman connector terminal #87 to factory reverse light circuit.

No worries. I appreciate the fact that you are even putting up with my questions and are trying to help me. So with the rigids into the trailer, I won't have issues like you mentioned with switching on the qux lights and having the reverse lights come on too?

Great job and photos. Looks real clean.
I would like to do the same mod. I just can't take a jig saw to my rear bumper yet. Your a brave man.
