RFID Keyless Entry, Push Button Start and Remote Start

Pretty cool video... Now, the real question is, how many members also watched the bicycle video? lol "I want to ride my bi-cycle..." Gotta a laugh out of that, thanks.

LOL, that was a vid we made for B school. It did turn out pretty funny though!!!

i'm very interested in the smart system. few questions if you don't mind:

from your video, i can't tell if you have a trail or heavily modded sr5. could you clear that up?

there's a few different st 800s. i don't see a toyota specific one. did you get the "universal" model shown at bottom?

spent 15 minutes googling "limited dash trim". can't seem to find it. could you point me in right direction because i would also like a clean, oem look if i decide to pull trigger.

as an aside: is that the national luna dual battery system to the left of you steering wheel? did you install that yourself?

thanks for the help

I have an SR5.

I bought the universal model shown at the bottom of the page.

I will track down the part number. You have to search Toyota Parts Cheap, or a place like that, its a OEM Toyota part.

And yes that is a National Luna System, and I did install it myself. I can handle things of that nature, I have always just steered clear of car alarms, they scare me :). I really like the National Luna System, works very well!

Hope that helps and feel free to shoot me a PM if you need more info.

On Toyota Parts Cheap...Collision Catalog - 2010 - Toyota - 4Runner
Instrument panel, Instrument panel components, Trim bezel, Limited, Limited

I think this is the panel I bought for the remote start button. I can't believe that I paid $39 bucks for it. I would definitely verify with dealer that this is the correct panel to the right of steering wheel that houses start button and party mode button.

Sorry I dont have part number, they dont seem to list it on the website.

Hope that helps.

thanks much. going to start looking into this. want to try to do it myself but after downloading instructions might be over my pay grade.

Correction:

I have the most bad ass, **** kicking, monster of an SR5. ever!

Love what you've done BFLAN... I've been real impressed with your build since signing on the forum. You seem to be a real asset here. I just wish I had the resources to jump into my truck and tear it up till it's the way I dream... this is yet another mod you're pics and descriptions have put me over the fence on... I'm gonna go for when i get the cash. Thanks

Great mod, I'd love to install this in my T4R. I switch between driving my Prius and T4R and sometimes find myself trying to hit the non existent push button on my T4R because I'm so used to having it in the Prius. Would love to have remote start as well in the T4R.

I'm very interesting in seeing the pics of the Limited steering column piece covering up the ignition when you get a chance. Seems like it would make it nice and clean. Already looks great with the push button installed in the Limited dash piece. Is the keypad in the front window a necessity? How noticeable is it from outside the vehicle?

Also, any idea if a system like this would have an impact on the factory warranty?

Thank you a lot :) Very kind words!

You will be very happy with it when you install. Its really nice. Took me a while to get used to not having a key anymore. I would keep trying to put my key in and take it out :)

I will get pics up of steering column when I get it completed.

Not sure if the keypad is necessary or not? I bet you could install and just not mount to front window if you wanted, keep it connected under dash or something.

Its not noticeable at all. I dont notice it at all, doesn't bother me while driving or anything of that nature.

Still pleased?

I have a 2011 TE and there were a few luxuries our Lexus IS350 has that were hard for me to overcome with the TE but I managed because the TE was totally me. I actually use the off-road capabilities and love the vehicle. Number one on my wishlist would have been touchless entry and push button start as I am in and out of my vehicle many times everyday, all day long with my work. The other things were poor stereo options and no power liftgate. Seeing this has me very excited that maybe this is a good option for me? Have you had any concerns or issues? I see some higher priced units out there but have you been happy with the quality of your unit?

Thanks, I look forward to your reply.

Very happy with the unit. It still works great and does everything that it claims too. I just got the little plastic cover that covers the cut key and will get a picture up here tomorrow so you guys can see how it looks.

Install?

Am I correct that you did not install yourself but had someone else? Approximately how long did they need the car to do this ?

So, they have to cut the head off a key and permanently install a key in the ignition?

Read the site, looks neat. Another question to add to the cutoff key since that seems to be it's only downfall:

Will the 4r crank over if you use the keyed ignition and/or didn't have the fob and were sitting in the truck?

Its a sick setup BFLAN, a good find for us non-ltds

I read the site. My concern: what happens when this thing ****s the bed? How do you start the truck?

I meant "I read" lol sorry if it came off like "hey read the site"

Yeah, hopefully those Koreans are up on their tech otherwise you'll be doing some side highway removal.

You are correct. I do just about everything myself except alarms and such. It is just so much easier for someone that does it all the time and knows where all the wires are. It took them all day and I think I paid like $175 for installation.

Yes or else there is no way to keep the steering column unlocked. I used my valet key since its a heck of a lot cheaper than a normal key fob.

Here is a pic after I installed the plastic cover over the cut key. You could also order a Limited steering column cover since it has no hole for key.
