If you refer to my first post, the Tundra shocks I bought have that exact part #. Sonoran says they are custom valved for the 4Runner but my bet is they are simply Tundra shocks with the accompanying valving for the heavier front end of the Tundra, but that's just what I think....

I bet your shocks are set on the 2nd perch with the amount of lift you have.

I am still lost as to where yours feels "bad." Although I am not much of a high speed, bumpy road person. The complaint you stated about the old logging road may be true. I know that for myself, without sway-bars, logging roads are always done at a normal pace where the bumps have never been an issue for me. I dont think this suspension set up is ideal for high speed and bumps but more for the max articulation and "plushness" crowd who play in the rocks/technical areas. My $0.02

But after that the process is slow. So on my 4runner at stock weight I wouldnt expect to see any noticible results until at least a few years from now.

Just the way your post was worded, I wanted to make sure it was clear what was supposed to settle. Also, the "settling" being discussed is not to be confused with "sagging", the spring was uncompressed before it was installed in your truck, and will ride taller for the 1st little while until it "settles" into your final ride height, which is normal for all coil springs, but seems to be more pronounced with the LC coils due to the tall height, and low spring rate.

I agree. The Sonoran system is fine at low speed. I find when I'm out theres a bit more speed involved. I may try another setup here in a bit...

Ok, I see what you mean. Right now I have almost 600 lbs in the back of my truck, so we'll see how much they settle in the next few weeks.
 
Very interested in the TRD/LC setup. But the back being too high, and too bouncy is worrisome. Phil, let us know how those 7.5 wraps end up. I really only want about 2" of lift, and it needs to be composed...not bouncy. That would drive me nuts. And I'll only have about 50 lbs of extra stuff in the cargo area most of the time. Unless we're camping, then it's a couple hundred pounds, plus a bike rack with bikes (another 120 pounds or so altogether).

I'm pretty much sold on the Tundra TRD/5100 front setup, though!

EDIT: I might just do the fronts, then put 5100s in the rear with a 1.5 daystar spacer on the stock '99 tall coils

Qyota, why not just go with OME 890's? They sound like a good height for you and will be a nice height with the Tundra/5100's.
 
Good call. That does sound like a good option, other than the 890's maybe being a bit stiff? Or is that more a function of the 5100 shock? Sorry to hijack your thread, rickashay! Thank you for sharing your lift experiences!

You will not get 2" of lift with an LC coil. If that's your target I would stay away.

I don't think the rear is bouncy - I was just not used to it as the OME 890/OME shocks rode like sh**. If I did OME's again I would for sure try the Bilstein rear shocks, NOT the OME "comfort rides" as they really really are not comfy. OME with Bilsteins might be the best compromise, I bet they will still be a little stiff but not terrible. LC's wont be stiff or bouncy but will be TALL. You decide what suites you best. Maybe OME 906's? Im not sure what the spring rate is like on those.....
 
What are the shortest LC coils I can get? 7-wraps? I might be able to handle 2.5 - 3.0 inches of lift on the back...but I don't want the front jacked up all that much. This is a weekend driver, but very little off-roading. More for camping, driving in inclement weather, etc. I certainly don't drive it every day, but when I do drive it, I need it to handle well.
 
No LC coil will be close to 2.5-3". The 7 wraps are closer to 4". You're choices are OME906, OME890, PP Springs (a rear pair is for sale right now in the classifieds), 99's plus spacer or finding some Downey coils (these are hard to find).

My LC 7 wraps lifted the back end 4.5 from stock. I believe they are settling with the weight I have in the back. But I doubt theyll settle any more than an inch
 
OK - I got a line on a pair of Tundra front assemblies from a 2002, supposedly TRD. 68K miles. I'm waiting for the guy to send me photos so I can confirm the spring codes, or at least verify the condition.

Getting excited now! I'm thinking 906/5100 in the rear, and if it's not tall enough, then I'll put in the daystar spacers I already have.

The 906s should be just fine without spacers. It should be close to level, maybe a tiny bit of rake. This is the same setup I'm going with. There were a few guys on yotatech that did this setup as well...

If you get 7 wrap and install them without the cone they will give you around 3.5" lift. If you install them with the cone you get almost 4" lift.
 
Wanted to confirm your part number for the rear Tundra 5100?

Your Part #: BE5-A014-H7

vs

One I got from my research # BE5-A014-H5

Are they just a different generation/production but still fits perhaps?

Edit- was just on downsouthmotorsports.com and the picture shows the rear shock P/N ending in "5" but the description is ending in "7" incase anyone else was wondering.
