Wow, I'm surprised you noticed! Yah they do stick out past the housings, they are going to clear the glass lenses but around 1/2" or less. Gunna be tight!

Glancing through this thread just marveling at all of your work leads me to my above question.
I have plug and play HIDs on my rig but nowhere near what I want.
One bulb will intermittently work and I have to shut my headlights off and back on to turn them both on. (Both have capacitors)
I wanted an angel eye type setup with a hyper white ring around my bulb. You do better work than ANYTHING I've ever seen.

Wow. Definitely impressive. Makes me wanna hurry up and do my retrofit even though it wont look half as good. I'd love to see what you could do to a set of auxiliary lights, like an HID conversion but 10x more badass. Good stuff!
 
Damn those things are huge! Make my mini's look, well, mini. Great work and I'm looking forward to the night shots. What K are the bulbs? Also the tint matches really well with the black housing.
 
Jealous since this is on the list of mods for my car. Too bad my next one will deplete my funds for a few months. Very nice!!!
 
I haven't done much research on this besides reading this thread; but is there any benefit to painting the lens black other than it just looks awesome? I purchased mine and the previous owner had already done the mod and left it chrome. Like I said I don't know much about them other than the HID box says Lightwerkz and they're 35w. They seem to be aimed ok but I wouldn't know where to start aiming or replacing a bulb.
 
Thanks for the compliments everyone! They've been a work in progress for, seriously, like 6 months so it's nice to finally be able to sit back and enjoy the light output. Doesn't hurt that they look pretty cool during the day also!

Painting the reflectors black is purely for aesthetics. The light is emitted from the projectors and no longer uses the reflectors. - which is why you can paint them black. Others prefer to make them appear more stock, and leave them chrome. Are you not satisfied with the light output? Do you have projectors or just a Lightwerkz HID kit? I have heard great things about Lightwerkz, he supposedly does amazing work. I heard his rates are pretty high though....
 
I have the projectors, and I'm happy with them. I think I would like to paint them black. It seems like a hefty project though, I don't know if I want to try it since they're working ok, I might wait until I have a good reason to take them apart.

wow... nice work - those corner lights really help to sell the look of the black surround of the projectors themselves. Great color scheme going on!
 
dude your 4runner has become one of my favorites on this forum! I am so jealous of how great it looks. It's so clean but so mean at the same time. LOVE IT!

You bet! The wiring harness for the projectors is tied into the factory H4 headlight circuit.

I think I'm going to have to order one of your projector retrofits so I can finally get my high beam indicator to function properly with the existing DDM HID kit which was installed when I bought this 4Runner...
