Just got back from a two week 1800+ mile road trip. It was an awesome little getaway. I got a good amount of pics to put up. Here's a teaser from the Mt. Shasta forest area. BTW- If you're on Instagram, you can follow all the updates on the rig at @RiDET4R.

Just a little review on the changes I made to the rig. I am really happy about down sizing my tires. I went from 295/65-18 GY Duratracs to 275/70-17 BFG K02's. The truck drives much better and is able to hold its speed much easier on the freeway. My avg MPG for the trip was 16.2. Cruising at 75-85 mph is no problem with the new setup.

How much weight do you think the new rack saved over the Gobi? I'm considering doing a leaning out of my rig too.

New rack saved about 40lbs if you include the shovel/axe/hi lift mount. Those things are pretty heavy for what they are. I can't emphasize enough how much better the truck drives since I put it on a diet. It's a brand new truck again.

I did get rid of a lot weight though. Lost 10lbs of rotational mass at each corner, 40lbs on the rack, and maybe a few hundred from getting rid of the Budbuilt skids. But, I am contemplating on getting the ARB skids for a little bit of protection down under.

Here's a couple more pics from my recent trip. Big Basin is amazing. If you haven't gone, get over there. The tallest trees in the world live there. It really is amazing.

Second shot was taken in the Mt. Shasta forest area. Miles and miles of gravel and dirt roads to explore. It seams endless. It's a great playground for our rigs.

Last shot is of the new-to-market Eezi-Awn Swift awning. It can be deployed with or without the supporting legs. If the winds pick up, the legs can be folded out of the arms and pegged down with the included pegs. It's an awesome piece of kit. It takes about 30 seconds to setup and break down. It's really convenient and the best awning I've had yet.

Sweet awning! I've got to see that in person. It seems like there would be a lot of leverage on the roof rack.

Couple updates on the rig. I followed what [MENTION=119516]jicko[/MENTION] did and upgraded my battery to the Odyssey 31m. It fit perfectly in the stock location. I also got my Console vault installed as well for extra security. Loving how the rig is coming together.

Have you considered opening up a hole in your bumper between the 2 recovering points to mount your light bar?

[MENTION=119516]jicko[/MENTION] - Yea i mocked it up but i ended up liking how it looked with the brackets. I actually have another 20" that i bought to mount to the bumper like [MENTION=50186]adio3x[/MENTION] did, but i decided just to mount the one.

Got to use the Eezi-Awn 1800 RTT last weekend and I'm very happy with the way the rig is coming together. Also met up with [MENTION=124732]LawnDart[/MENTION]design earlier this week. He snapped the first pic.

Also, I returned my Dometic 35L and upgraded to the Dometic 65L Dual zone. This should give us plenty of space for food and drinks. Also finally ordered a winch. I went with the Warn M8000s. Will update the thread once I get it put on.

I wondered how comfortable the RTTs are. You can't really tell from reading the manufacturers descriptions of the tents. I know nothing about RTTs, but would love to get one. I assume the bottom is thick foam?

I like to see the progression on this truck. I have a '94 80 series Land Cruiser, and while I love it, the weight of the thing is what is driving me towards a new 5th Gen. Steel front and rear bumpers, full skids, drawer system, fridge, RTT, it all adds up. Heavy truck to start with.

I love seeing how you put this on a diet and you said it feels like a new truck. I either need to put my LC on a diet, or pull the trigger on a 5th Gen, and keep the build lightweight and simple this time around.

Are you still a fan of the K9 rack?
