Well, it only look me a year to gather the necessary accessories, but I am now in the process of planning the HAM install

Yeasu 1500m MilSpec 2m HAM
Diamond k9000 motorized antenna mount
Diamond antenna
Diamond cable

Only thing I have to do is find the right DPDT momentary switch to replace the ugly switch that came with the k9000 mount. Then put it all in!

For those that are interested, the k9000 mount accepts nearly all types of antennas.. including CB antennas. Just an FYI for those looking for a different type of CB antenna mount..


Also have a TRD dynamic tensioner on the way.

Congrats on a truly unique build...I like that you've taken things in your own direction. Your buyer guide was of great assistance to me when I first bought my truck over 2 months ago, and now I'm trying to take my DD in a unique direction as well. When I have time, I'll finish reading everything you've shared with the forum. Thanks for all of your contributions!

Edit: Just looked over your cargo box build. I do work with wood on a daily basis and first time or not, you did a great job planning, buying the correct supplies, and bringing your project to life. I think it's an amazing feeling when you have an idea in your head and you're able to bring your idea to fruition through your own labor. I'm still contemplating whether or not I want to build a cargo box, and I'm searching different threads for ideas.

This may be a dumb question... But what are the advantages to having a HAM radio and a CB radio? What's the difference/benefits?

CBs are just fancy walkie talkies, HAMs use very high and ultra high frequencies and repeaters to sometimes reach around the world. You can talk with anyone, anywhere. You do need a license to operate HAMs, so you dont get all the crazy trucker talk like on CBs.

Its part of my doomsday prepping, lol.


The advantage to CBs is that they are cheap and work very well over short distances. Most offroading clubs require them as team communication.

Nice job on upgrading to the HAM. I was just talking with an employee next to our office about HAM radios since the manufacture and ship high end HAM radios all around the world. It's crazy how big the waves can be. He was saying one wave can originate in Ca and touch back down in Texas. Kind of crazy that on given days you could talk to Russia using one. Looking forward to seeing the mounting and review once you get it in.

God bless you haha. I've been preparing a bit myself, found out what a HAM radio is through a user on YouTube by the name "SoCalPreppers", don't know if you've ever heard of him. The preppers on YouTube are a great bunch of people, tons of ladies into it, as well! I ain't got a get home bag yet, but I do have tools in the back, that's a start haha. Eventually I will get a CB, I don't know where in the hell around here I could get a HAM license. I have a few guns in my house, but seeing as I'm 16 they can't stay in my 4runner haha.

Been a bit since I have perused your build, I always know I am in for a treat when I do. This Summer has some things in line for the Hulk, one of which is the cargo box. I am planning right now on mine being more horizontal than vertical, however I do think your cargo box is pretty incredible. Nice work sir

The bumper looks incredible, very well mounted, and I am can't wait until she is painted. In hindsight, I would have preferred for my 4x lights being mounted in the bumper instead of on top, it is much cleaner looking. I also like the clean look with no hoops on the top. I drive through SO many trees that I find the extra armor to be helpful, but I think yours looks better....

All in all, incredible. Nicely done!!

I like the way the bumper look color wise right now. Since it's not painted you should paint it that same color as your paint on the vehicle.

I had to get a little folding step stool to get my 84 yr old Mom and my inlaws
who are in their mid 70's in the Runner when we take them out for dinner - etc.. funny thing is they all think it's Cool...LOL!!

Dynamic tensioner upgrade

Well I finally managed to upgrade to a dynamic tensioner for the TRD supercharger!

What is the dynamic tensioner you ask? Well the static tensioner that I had before has many disadvantages.. such as being very tough to get perfect belt tension, and the bearing in mine was COMPLETELY shot. It freaking screamed at me 24/7.

So the dynamic tensioner, its a spring loaded belt tensioner. The advantage to this one is that the spring in the tensioner does all the work getting the right belt tension. So no worrying about having slightly to tight or too loose belts (which is very bad for the bearings in the nose cone of the supercharger!). The other advantage is that it helps keep better control of the belt with the 2.2" pulley on the supercharger. The regular static tensioner would let the belt slip a lot.

The part is quite expensive though, about 280 bucks online.
The part number is PTR29-60032.

Did I ever mention that I love having a steel shelf... er I mean bumper!

Only reason I took the grille off real quick was to use my shelf, lol.

Next is bumper paint (about time, amirite?). As soon as I get a day off I am going to get factory colored paint mixed!

The exact one i had is no longer made. But there is a similar one out. It was 16x8 with 4.5" BS. You dont need a spacer with that much backspacing.

I got it at discount tire/ americas' tire.
