I only have one thing to say about this:

Good old "Octopus car Wash"...LOL!!! I took mine there after work on Monday.
They do a good job and it's brushless plus they are using microfiber towels.

I actually take mine there frequently. The one on Alameda is the best in town.

It's brushless so no swirl marks and I'm picky as hell.... I'm getting a Zainos care package today.

I went through my inventory and needed to re-order polishing supplies.

Whats up Rip! With the center caps, were you not able to pound out the raised letters? Still looks great otherwise.
I got them as flat as I could. I plan to re-do these though. I will use a grinder and really get the tops smooth. Then I will use individually cut letters instead of the circle decals.

Exactly, Octopus does a good job, especially the Alemeda shop which is the only one I choose to use. The only part you have to worry about is the guys that dry the car. So if you make sure they do good, you get a good wash.

Custom Rear Upper Shock Mounts & OME 890

|August 17, 2011|

Well, I got another side project done yesterday. Custom rear upper shock mounts!
Because, as you all know, the stocks ones are just awful.

The shocks I have (Bilstein 5125 extended travel) have an eye mount on the top, while the stock mount is meant for a stud. Therefor I needed an adapter. The adapter I had was causing a bit of clunking over bumps and such, so I had to think of a way to keep my shocks while getting rid of the stupid idiot adapter.

I got the idea for the project from fellow member Scoobydann: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/84942-scoobydanns-against-grain-build.html

Here is what Scoobydann did. The difference is I have the eye-eye shocks with an adapter, so my mount will be much different.

Here is the adapter I have that came with the shocks from toytec lifts:

After thinking it over and drawing up plans, I decided how I was going to do it..

I went over to my friend Steven's house, he is a good friend on mine and is quite good with a welder. He is the one that welded on the panhard drop also!

First, I had to measure how high I needed to mount the shock. Yes, these measurements were taken with the axle & suspension at ride height.

Then I cut the bolts off the old adapter:

Tacked on the mount, to check fitment first. We also mounted the shock and cycled the articulation to check for proper alignment and fitment, but I did not take pics of that part.

After having to break off one side and re-check it, we were ready to weld. I know, not professional work, but it is more than strong enough.

Then some paint after it cooled:

All done:

==============================================

Also, while I was in Denver last weekend, I stopped by the Toytec customer day. They were having a big discount on parts so I picked up a set of 890 rear coils.

I know what you are thinking, ANOTHER SET OF REAR COILS??? Yup.
Here's why:
1) my first set, the OME 891's, were way too stiff. They are meant for extra loads, which I don't carry.
2) Moved up to LC80 8 wraps. While these rode great, I didn't like the 4-4.5" of lift I got from them.
3) I wanted to get right at 3" of lift with a firm but forgiving ride quality. Enter the OME 890.

I noticed that one coil was marked with "A" while the other was "B". I bet one was meant for the driver's side.

110_1030.jpg~original

Putting them next to each other, you can see that the coil marked "A" is about 1/2" higher than the other:
That means that the "A" coil is for the driver's side as that side has much more weight. (fuel tank, battery, driver)

I will update with profile shots later, but I assure you, it is as level as level can get now!

EDIT: Measurements.
Measurements are taken from center of hub to fender on the driver's side:

Before: with LC80 8 wrap.
Front: 22 1/4"
Rear: 24 3/4"

After: with OME 890.
Front:22 1/2"
Rear:23 1/4"

Side shot with OME 890:

Awesome work with the shock mount relocation. Seeing you do this actually gives me great relief...I've been worried that my factory mounts might rust out enough to break through. If they do, I'll just do this mod and use some eye to eye style shocks!

Can you do me a huge favor? I need to figure out if I'm going to put 1.5" spacers on top of my 890's. Unlike you, I want a little rake. But I still want a baseline before I do it.

What is your front height? Ground to fender? And how tall are your tires? (ground to top of tire)

Yeah, definitly go with the coil marked "A" on the drives side. I have my installed incorrectly right now and my passenger side is just a tad over 1/2" higher than the drivers. Going to fix it this weekend and hopefully get things back to level.

You dont need eye-eye shocks for this mod. See the link at the beginning of the post.

And ill do the measuring after it has settled what little its gonna settle. It appears I will be either level or very slightly raked. And that is with the front being like 3-3.25" of lift.

Yeah I did, just don't have any pictures of how it sits yet.

Nice job on the shocks Rip!
Thanks!

Amazing truck!! when will the sc go on?
Weekend of the 27th.

Great work on the shock mounts man!
Thanks!

Oh, of course. I missed that picture and his project.

Actually, the info I was wanting is your current FRONT height, ground to fender. So I can compare it my front height.

Yeah I saw you say front the first time. The reason im waiting for settling, is that I appear to have gained between a quarter and half inch of lift up front since the coils install.

Ill measure this afternoon.

Ok guys, I updated the post on 890's to include measurements before and after. Also included a picture!

But, the main thing I wanted to say was that I have spent a few hours last night on a little project for my build thread itself. I added my own form of indexing to the existing title and mod overview post (page 1, post 1).

I added page and post information and links next to each mod that will take you to the single post where that mod is the focus. Let me know what you think of it!!

What do I think of it? I think that if we were kids, I'd be trying to build a box out of legos, while you're over there building a bloody perfect replica of the Eiffel Tower.

Oh and if it wasn't clear, that means I dig it!

You calling me french? :rockthrow:

And thank you.
