Road Bull's 2002 SR-5 timeline.

Thanks for the offer! If their price is right, I would be happy to pay you to ship them.

Too much IMO but you can negotiate I'm sure. Wants $20 each. I didn't inspect them too closely for damage. Here's a quick snapshot. Grabbed my LCAs...yay.

Thanks for checking and taking time to ask and take some pictures. That might be a little too close to what what Camelback sells them for new. I think I will go with Camelback on this one, but thanks for looking out man!

Oh! And I ordered myself two of those angled plastic scrapers so that I can put my plastic hood protector back on.

However, when I was washing the vehicle the other day, I popped off one of those little rubber bumpers that keep the protector from hitting the hood. I still have it, but I am not sure if I can just reattach somehow without hurting the hood, or just source a replacement rubber bumper.

Hey right on! Those are pretty strong and won't damage your hood. It will take a bit to get used to but well worth it.

I'm pretty sure I have the same reflector and they're just rubber with a peel away back. I'll bet if you could find a package of 3M EVA type double-sticky dots or small squares you would be OK. Sad part is you only need one. That's what I would do. Not much help here, sorry. Good luck!

I purchased a 2002 SR5 with ~179K on the clock March 01, 2015 for $7K. Overall, it was pretty clean, not perfect, but frame was solid and not rusted, no noticeable leaks and drove well. I had been driving a 1994 Toyota extended cab V6 4WD manual DX since 2002. So this felt like a huge upgrade for me in terms of power, luxury, and ride smoothness. I had caught T4R fever from surfing this forum too much. I already had designs for what I wanted to do when I bought it.

It took me a while to find something that I liked that was in good shape. Everything out here on market in the PNW is usually either beat to hell, or very expensive. I really wanted something that I could safely transport my drums with. I could have bought a canopy for my pickup, but I also liked the idea of having more seats for when family comes to visit. A canopy would not fix that issue.

Pics upon purchase: 03-01-15

That is one clean engine bay! Nice find.

I got my nylon scrapers in the mail yesterday. Now I can see about mounting my Stone deflector back on my hood, AND be able to open my hood if I so choose. LOL. That SW Bull bar is a snug fit brothers. This will allow me to use the scraper as leverage to pop the hood. Thanks again Rock_Rat!

Now I just need to replace one of the little rubber nubs that I knocked off when I washed it.

Now I am just trying to decide on the next major upgrade. I am thinking about doing the TBU, or possibly lift.

Sweet!!! Seriously, you need to do the TBU before the lift. Scramble is getting ready to do his and trust me, as Unner and I both have said, it's the BEST upgrade you're going to do with the additional weight. You'll be amazed at your braking power and lack of brake fade finally after all these years. For me it was a safety issue because of where I live. Anyway, you can do the lift the same afternoon. Five "discs" per side and you're done. One side at a time. I think I paid $200 for mine from Toytec before I knew about shootmymime. He sells body lifts on here.

My rubber bumpers came off without me knowing it & the wind pushed the protector against the paint while driving on the highway. This must have been going on for a long time because the front of my hood started to rust. It was the perfect excuse for me to go get a Sport Hood that I had been lusting after for many years.

So when I put the new deflector on I put the rubber bumpers on the inside of the deflector instead of the paint.

Yes! TBU as soon as I can get a warm sunny Sat afternoon.

Yeah, I think this will be in the near future. The TBU just makes sense. And while it's another added expense, it's more of an investment into safety and some paid forward insurance for the unexpected.

Yeah.. sunny day.. I had one yesterday, then life caught up to me and I lost the light before I could do my oil change. Soooooo, oil change in the rain for me. At least it was only light rain. If I can figure out the bump stop replacement today, then I can put the deflector back on in my garage. It is pretty tight quarters for things like oil changes.

For the oil change, I tried going in through the wheel well side flap without taking off the skids. This saved some time and it seemed to go as least as clean and smoothly as going in from underneath. I guess we'll see. Next time I might take the skid off, but still go through the side. It is much easier to grab and get of good hold on. I didn't have to fight it either.

I went with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and tried a K&N oil filter this go around. I like that it has a nut at the top just in case the filter is stubborn the next time. I am just shy of 195K miles. 5K more and I can join the big 200K+ mile club!

While double checking my work and the underside of my rig I got thinking about my future lift. My CV boots looked pretty dry, but they are holding up for now. I am wondering if is just smart to try to do those, either replace the boots or whatever when I do the lift. It seems that the originals never last too long after a new lift. I am just trying to plan ahead to keep my rig happy.

My passenger side boot ripped they day after I put my lift on. The drivers side went 2 weeks later.

Ha! This should be good...

So, after arming myself with just enough knowledge via youtube, and several trips to the hardware store and O'Reilly Auto Parts for close-enough provisions, I set myself to the task of doing a bit of rust removal, priming and touch up.

I am keeping my expectations low on this one. The way I figure it is, even if it isn't pretty, it has to be better than rust. That and most, well really all, if things proceed as planed, are not visible.

The goal it twofold. I want to touch up some damage to protect from further rust, and (the main goal) put my hood mounted stone guard back on. I have had to remove it after I mounted my Shrockworks front bumper because it left no clearance to get your fingers in to activate the hood release.

So after taking off the guard, I realized how much I liked the look, and probably function of the guard. I noticed I had a few healthy, and rusty, dents in various places. Most were tiny, one about the size of a breathmint. 5 on the hood and one on the driver's side roof.

I saw a video where the guy suggested using a hole punch to punch some sandpaper. Then use crazy glue to put the little circles of sandpaper on top of the eraser for a pencil. This let's you sand as small and area as possible. Then a few steps that I cut out, I added priming the surface, to followup with color matching Toyota touch up paint.

The weather has been a bit of a pill raining off and on so I am trying to adapt and overcome within the cramped, low light quarters of my garage.

Any updates on your rust repair? I have a couple small rust spots emerging on the rear passenger door.

Hahahaha... Well. They are... "repaired", although Not super pretty. But to be fair, that was not my intended goal. I did want to get rid of the rust and throw some primer, paint, and clear coat down. In that regard, it was a success. But if someone did this for me, I might ask, (in my Family Guy Stewie voice) "What the hell man!?!?"

I will attempt to clean it up a little once I have more than seven hours where it is not raining. It's not too bad, but I should have done more of everything. More primer, more touch up paint, more, clear coat in order to bring the repaired surface up to the rest of the paint. I wasn't too worried about it as I plan to get my stone protector back on, and my roof is not really seen. I will see if I have some current pictures. Keep in mind at least one of these repairs, the impact damage actually dented the hood.

I have a few other areas that I will be working on soon. My rocker panel has a pretty healthy ding and chip in it from the PO. At minimum, I can live with a bit ugly as long as it is not rust. After all, I could pay someone else to do it right if I want, or get good enough with some trial and error to be able to call it good.

I am kicking around different lift options at the moment. I see that there is a FOX group buy that is ending this weekend. Part of me is tempted. I suppose if I was interested in going the upper tier coilovers, now would be a good time. I am not sure what I would end up getting for the rear though. Perhaps a SS 1.2 rear only kit? Or maybe just stick with the Toytec Boss kit.

In other news, I got some sweet Weathertech floor mats. They replaced the lamest beige generic mats that came courtesy of the PO.

I think I will also remove the skinny chrome flares tomorrow. I have been looking at a few SR-5s without the flares and I think it is a cleaner look overall.

The Weather Techs look great! Funny how we have the same "which lift kit" dilemma for our 4Runners. Subscribed!!

Thanks. Yeah I meant to do the Weather Tech thing a while back. I think for most of us, especially a "first build" owner, the lift is a BIG jump. People want to make sure that they get it right. I am leaning towards one of two directions on that. I caught the Fox GB kind of late. I decided to hold off on the Fox option. I like to research options a lot before I make my decision. I usually regret it when I don't.

As far as lifts go, I would probably he happy with a Toytec Boss lift, but I might bump it up a bit and maybe go with King CO's up front and Superflex in the rear. Now I just need a pile of money... A fair amount of my mods these days revolve around deleting something that is on my 4runner. lol.

Yes, I wanted to lift mine once not keep going back because I am not happy with it. My neighbor across the street has King on his Taco. He loves it! But it's sure is pricey.

I had the superflex rear springs for awhile and I really liked them. I swapped them out because they made coil slap noises but all the new springs I've seen come with sleeves to stop the noise. I also ordered mine from wheeler's offroad which may be why there were no sleeves.
Any word on your bumper yet?

I did the toytec ultimate boss kit with the super flex rear coils and I have had zero slapping great Flex and even though the rear sits a little higher than the front when I load up the back it's it's nice and flat and even. I did a lot of research and I have very limited funds but ultimately I wanted icon, but that's years down the line. .or lottery.

I have solid steel front and rear bumpers and the ride is smooth for me, which was a prerequisite. Having king coil overs(these are the reservoir ones right? Otherwise my statements are irrelevant ) I didn't see the benefit because I don't do high speed desert racing. My entire kit cost 1445.00 with alignment and installation. I've lifted 3 4runners ands one of them twice because I didn't listen to my self. I've also lifted Tacoma with reservoir setup, but I did desert racing with paddles .

Look forward to your decision and pictures :)
