Road Bull's 2002 SR-5 timeline.

I had the superflex rear springs for awhile and I really liked them. I swapped them out because they made coil slap noises but all the new springs I've seen come with sleeves to stop the noise. I also ordered mine from wheeler's offroad which may be why there were no sleeves.
Any word on your bumper yet?

I remember reading that about the superflex springs. Check out Flemster's build page>> http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/215880-flemsters-2000-sr5-sport-3.html#post2345540

It shows exactly what you are talking about. I don't think I would get them if they were going to make a bunch of noise. That would drive me crazy, especially when there are other options. But anything much taller (ie LC coils) and my 265/75/16s will look like bottle caps. lol. I would definitely consider a larger tire, say 255/85/16 Cooper ST Maxx or maybe 285/75/16 for broader selection, but I would want to have a matching spare that is not on my roof.. Ha! It never ends.

How do you like your LC 8 wraps?

And no.... I still have not heard peep about my Addicted Offroad bumper. I ordered that thing 03-11-16. So about 9 weeks and 4 days now. I called a week and a half ago and he said that they were getting some parts in early that week, hoping to ship bumpers at the end of the week. I keep hoping to get an email with shipping confirmation, but it hasn't happened yet.:crybaby:

Yes, I wanted to lift mine once not keep going back because I am not happy with it. My neighbor across the street has King on his Taco. He loves it! But it's sure is pricey.

Me too brother. They are probably overkill for my needs.

I did the toytec ultimate boss kit with the super flex rear coils and I have had zero slapping great Flex and even though the rear sits a little higher than the front when I load up the back it's it's nice and flat and even. I did a lot of research and I have very limited funds but ultimately I wanted icon, but that's years down the line. .or lottery.

I have solid steel front and rear bumpers and the ride is smooth for me, which was a prerequisite. Having king coil overs(these are the reservoir ones right? Otherwise my statements are irrelevant ) I didn't see the benefit because I don't do high speed desert racing. My entire kit cost 1445.00 with alignment and installation. I've lifted 3 4runners ands one of them twice because I didn't listen to my self. I've also lifted Tacoma with reservoir setup, but I did desert racing with paddles .

Look forward to your decision and pictures :)

Yeah, I wasn't even talking about the reservoir front coilovers. Even the people that have those say that the fronts resi is a bit overkill. And I don't really do fast offroad. Maybe that's fun, but I just enjoy being out there. The work week is fast paced, my time off having fun doesn't need to be. That seems like a smoking deal for a Boss lift installed, $1445? Where was that?

Do you have pics of your lift, side views and whatnot? I would be down to check them out. I am glad that it seems they have addressed the "spring slapping" issue. That made me want to check out other options. The Boss kit is probably the front runner option at the moment. If the King COs for the front weren't THAT much more, I would be tempted to go King in front and superflex in the rear. But we'll see.

My 8 wraps are great; they're soft but still planted to the ground. The ride of the superflex coils was slightly softer but that's comparing brand new springs to ones with over 300k miles on them. If I were going for performance on a budget, I probably would have gotten the lc shocks since they have slightly more wheel travel. That being said, I'm very happy with my 5100s. It's also nice having matching shocks front and rear.
I would also recommend my front lift if you're not wanting to fork over big bucks for a 2.5" COs. I'll probably get Icons if my truck ever falls off DD duty but until then, the 5100s/eibachs definitely hold their own.

It sounds like that expansion really set them back. I ordered mine the 26th of March. I was hoping to get mine painted this weekend but I guess that's wishful thinking

Superior Off Road in Gresham. They've done great for me and I physically can't do anything. I installed my reservior transmission cooler and worked on installing new 5.29's in my father's rig and by the end of the day I couldn't walk.. Been in bed for the last 3 days straight and finally able to start move again really slowly. Back to the lift, hehe, If your interested in getting it done from them send me a PM and ill help ya out on a deal.

Thanks Kotrin. That gives me a pretty good idea. Nice chop job too btw! Very clean and well done. I imagine the install took about a day I am guessing. You guys down in OR have it nice not having to pay 9.5% sales tax too. For some of those big ticket items, it makes sense to come pay you guys a visit. :thumb: And thanks for the offer I will definitely consider it.

Yeah, I lived in Washington for about 5 years and when I purchased my Tacoma I bought it during the time of where you can't claim it on your taxes either(didn't know this till I went to file..). But when I purchased big ticket items I always made a trip down to Oregon and finally moved close to Intel after making that drive for 3 years and getting frustrated...

GL and looking forward to seeing it grow =)

So the FedEx guy dropped this off this morning. Getting some area PC pricing at the moment. Been looking forward to this sine March.

Ok... moving forward. Oil change @ 200550 miles. I took the better part of an hour to wipe all the grime and oil from who knows how many other oil changes that caked my skid plates. Got AOR front bumper back from being powder coated. Found out that my driver's side headlight took a nasty unknown impact and has a whole in the glass. (Researching replacement). The bumper should go on this Friday along with trans cooler. I ordered some SPC LR UCAs in the group buy. I am waiting to see shipping info... I am slowly gathering parts for a lift.

Process AOR front bumper and B&M 70264 trans cooler installed.

Ahh... it's taken a minute, but I feel like I am moving forward. My friend and I knocked out a bumper swap. Shrockworks off, Addicted Offroad on. Trans cooler installed. Goodbye pink milkshake. Oh, and stone/bug deflector mounted back up. I will also be getting around to putting the Shrockworks bumper up for sale at some point. Anyway, it feels good to move forward a bit. I have been pretty busy playing shows with my band so I haven't been able to catch up. We did play a gig in Port Angeles last night. Besides being a ton of fun, I forgot how pretty it is out there on the Peninsula. I need to head out there more often.

So after a little weekend mishap with a leaky cooler, I realized that I needed to get in there and see if there was any water under the carpet and pad. The first night I wasn't able to address it, nor did I realize how much water had spilled. Now I ripped it all out. It is dry, but the pad smells like ass. I figure that I can just get some replacement pad and cut to size.

But for the rear carpet that was removed that will most likely be a different story. It seems to be complicated by the composite material that is the seat backings. The carpet wraps around it. I feel like if it didn't do that I could just wash it and let it dry. So I will have to research that a bit.

I also found a cheap-o electrical mod that the PO did to hook up trailer lights.there was one thing wire that had a piece of the insulation exposed to bare wire. It looks like this was run from the cigarette lighter socket on the right, under the rear plastic cover guard, to the little grille on the left. Way to go... for now I put some electrical tape around the exposed bit and called it good.

My Shrockworks bumper was sold locally to a nice guy from CL.

in other news, I should be ordering some King extended travel coilovers as I continue to piece my lift together. I am planing on a SS 1.2 rear only lift out back. Although not my 50 meter target, I have also been eyeing some aftermarket wheels. On the low end of the reasonably affordable would be ProComp 7069 or Level 8 MK 6. On the upper end, I really like the FN 5 stars... mmmmm. But, I am getting ahead of myself.

I plan on throwing in come new CVs when I put my lift on and keep the old CVs for a back up. Also TBU is going to happen soon. I would love if Camelback would have a Labor Day Sale to make it easier on me. Same thing for NAPA autoparts.

Ok.. so I decided to take up the cargo carpet and see how the padding looked. Not good is the answer to that question. Not so much look, but smell. I don't think this was all my recent mishap with water from my cooler, but the padding had a pungent stench that smelled like wet dog, cigarettes, and mildew.

So out it all came. I have a bit more to do, but I did go to Lowe's and pick up some stain master padding. Basically it's like normal padding, but it has a moisture barrier. I figured a little extra protection never hurt. So I cut it down and sized it a bit larger than the old standard padding . I want to scrub down the rubber mat that goes under the padding. So that's all fairly straightforward.

Now... I just need to be able to clean the rear cargo carpet itself. It is not as bad as the padding, but it is no bed of roses either. LOL. I was going to bring some cleaner to a car wash place and scrub it down, pressure washer it, and let it dry in the sun. But, I am also thinking about borrowing a Rug Doctor type carpet cleaner. The issue I see that complicates cleaning is the board backing that is attached that goes behind the rear seats. Otherwise I'd be tempted to find a large washing machine to shove it all in. But I think I will end up having to take care not to get that portion wet.

More fun to follow.

You play drums? Nice. I have a Roland td - 8 set that I play these days. Sweet truck!

Ha! Yes I do play drums in a band called Infinite Flux. >> https://www.facebook.com/InfiniteFlux/?fref=ts

Drums are tons of fun. Between my obsession with drums and this 4runner, my wallet is never too heavy.

I would have killed to have some cool electric drums when I spent about 8 years living in an apartment in Seattle. Luckily, I live in a house now and have cool neighbors so I can play and not be bothering people.

The runner is a slow work in progress. It is taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Slow and steady wins the race. But... I have a lot of parts coming my way. Some King coilovers to match up with my SPC light racing UCAs, Soon to add SS 1.2 rear lift. I also have a TBU and tacoma whip heading my way from camelback. So as soon as all that lands, and I find time to plug it all in, I should be able to say that I have moved forward. LOL.

I dig the way your tires look on your rig. I saw that you are running a 1" Toytec BL. Are you still running that? If you weren't, would you have a lot of rubbing with your tires? I really need to go to a tire shop and look at some tires side by side. 265/75>> 285/75>> 255/85>> 295 & 315s. This is my DD, and I like the extra power I feel like I have with the 3.4 V6 coming from a 3.0 V6 Toyota 4x4 Extended cab. I feel like I have a real engine. I just don't want to be losing speed on the highway when I head to the mountains.

Nice, your lead singer's got a slayer thing goin on! Yes still have the 1" body lift in, and no rubbing. I did cut the plastic and beat back the pinch weld. I also have spidertrax wheel spacers. No rubbing any direction. You can definitely get away with running 33s and no BL without rubbing. But you might rub a bit on bumps or off-roading without one.

I am knocking out the last bit of Maintenance that I want to get done before I install the lift. For now I will be running 265/75/16 till I find something I can't live without. In any event, I think I will wait for discount tire have their big sale for anything to happen.

So my order from Camelback came yesterday. Now I just need to go to Napa to pick up the calipers, and CVs while I am at it, and I can move forward with the TBU. Woot!

I also reinstalled my rear cargo carpet the other day after getting rid of the smell.

FWIW I'm going in on some new 265/75/16 as well (firestone destination "special edition" AT is what I settled on). Got a great deal on some Pro Comp 7069s from a forum member. Hope to get the new shoes on this week.

Checked your band out, sounds awesome. Sounds like early Kyuss/Electric Wizard-y

Nice. Those are the wheels I plan on running when I pick up new wheels. They have a very classic look and they don't break the bank.

Update time...

With the help of my friend I managed to knock out my TBU using OEM rotors and pads to go along with Napa Eclipse calipers. I also swapped out my old front brake lines with braided SS brake lines from Wheelers as well as throwing in some new Napa CVs. I changed the front differential fluid to Valvoline 75-90 full synthetic.

I took advantage of Napa's fit it in the bag for 20% off on the calipers, CVs, and fluids. Oh! And a 36mm axle nut socket.

I gave the Tacoma whip mod another shot and went down in flames. I was successful at removing the dumb broke-ass mechanical mast and assembly. I got the whip mounted. Then I ran into problems. I read about the PITA that is guiding the new antenna wire back to the back of the unit. So I read something about someone who tied a string to the end of the old jack before they pulled it out to the fender. Ha! No problem right? Sounded smart as hell. It started off well. I even rigged up a little cardboard splint out of a TP roll to keep the lead straight coming back through.

Well.. somewhere along the way the jack took a left turn at Albuquerque and the string got severed. Fan f****** tastic. I tried using a coat hanger to attempt to guide it blind to somewhere I can reach it and guide it through. No dice so far. I will try again this weekend.

I might start some How NOT to videos.
