Sell your rims, get some 17's, and get the Ridge Grapplers. I'm not kidding. Have I mentioned it's the best tire of ever run? lol

J/K, I know you are a string advocate for the Ridge Grapplers. I have thought about uprising wheels, but all the 17" tires are more expensive as well. Who knows... I could see going with ST MAXX as a 16" option as well though. They are a nice mix between AT and MT.
Are yours E rated? I like the extra insurance of sidewall protection. I don't think I would ever give that up for a slightly softer ride.

Of course mine are E rated. With all the terrain I run having a thicker tread ply is a must.
D,E,F are not sidewall ratings though. They are tread ply rating. Both the Ridge Grappler and the Cooper ST Maxx use a 3 ply poly for there sidewalls.

The ST MAXX are great. I haven't had an issue with them on or off road. Still very quiet with 25k or so miles on them. And they are wearing very very well. Extremely strong sidewall, they ride pretty good though for an E load tire. Actually better than my old BFG KMs when I replaced them with these, and the KMs were C load.
I can't make these tires spin in the rain. I know my truck isn't made for spinning tires in the slightest, but they won't spin whereas the other tires I've had on the truck, BFG Rugged Terrains and BFG KM's, both would spin fairly easily. I was riding in my dad's Tacoma (on Duratracs with similar miles to mine) the other day and it was raining. We went to pull out on an incline and it would not go. With just light throttle it was spinning the tires and we were sliding sideways with the tires just spinning. It did not hook up at all like it should have. It was pretty sketchy. It made me appreciate the ST MAXX even more. He just traded the Tacoma in on an FJ that's got brand new KO2's so I'll be curious to hear his opinion of them versus the Duratracs.

Ah, you learn something new everyday. I have heard nothing but good things about them. I was just giving you the business, (leave it to beaver reference). I just hear so much talk about E rated vs.D, E, F, that somehow I'd always figured that the extra plies were part of the sidewall. I remember expecting a really rough ride she I got my 265/75/16 BFG KO2s . I didn't find them harsh at all. I figured that going with a thinner construction tire would not be worth it when you are in a rough spot and the sidewall gets shredded.
I just wish they made em for 16" wheels. HA! I am trying to cut down on my discretionary offroad purchases.

Hey Mike! Sorry, I meant to respond and got sidetracked. I know the feeling on needing to get caught up on things. There just aren't enough hours in the day sometimes. Maybe somewhere down the line when I am in your neck of the woods we can get link up, maybe grab lunch or something. I would love to check out your rig sometime. You have great attention to detail and manage to make great looking write ups too. Do you hit much of your local trails out there? Or do you prefer to overland and camp?
I have been making a strong effort to try to get out, well, anywhere more this year. Now that I have gotten most of my big upgrades out of the way, I have tried to shift focus to making good use of said upgrades. There are plenty of things that would like to do, or add, but those things are more like enhancements, (lighting, traction boards, stereo, and somewhere way off, maybe a locker / regear), and don't prevent me from going out and having fun.

Those ST Maxx tires are a good performer out here. I see them on plenty of rigs, including one of the rigs on our last snow fiasco. Hahaha. I am not going to say that he was able to chew through everything, but he might have had an easier go of it than a lot of us with KO2s. But to be fair, that particularly deep snow was stopping everyone.

Also, I was lucky enough to have a buddy loan me his electric drum kit this year, that thing, a loop station, and a guitar are a good time if you have no one to jam with

Thanks man! I have been trying to get out when I can. I have been having a blast. This build had been touch and go for a while in the beginning. I started things out of order. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have focused on things that would have got me out enjoying it faster. My first expensive mod after tires, was a bumper that I ended up swapping out for on that I liked more. I think I was thinking more long term goals and it wasn't really till the last year that everything came together as I was planning it. LOL. :tea:

I know that struggle. We're very lucky to have resources like this forum, but it's easy to get things out of order.
I bought my lift (Bilstein 6112 w/OME 890's/5100 in the rear) thinking I would have plenty of time before weight started getting added. Here I am like 4 months later with front and rear bumpers and an RTT, now I'm like "shit, I should've just bought the kings and 861's from the start" :redbrick:
Now I'm trying to plan a 5-6 week solo camping/road trip and I'm scrambling to get everything buttoned up before then. I have a few more months to prepare so I'm optimistic it will all work out (80 hour work weeks are definitely helping with loading up the wallet...to be emptied bi weekly)

Yup. I think all the build clairvoyance generally comes with a second build. You have earned hindsight at that point.
I am currently looking to get ready to do some camping. I might try to hit up the NW Overland Rally this year. Right now I am looking at storage containers to organize cargo area storage.

A couple pics of last weekend near Granite Falls. Unfortunately there was still a fair amount of snow and ice that made it a bit if a challenge to find great options. Still, it was nice out there. There were so many people shooting that at times it sounded like a firefight. Lol. I found what seemed like some wild chickens hanging out next to the trail.

At this point, I think I just want to get some solid plastic stackable storage solutions. I like drawer systems, but at this time, I would like to try to keep weight down, but still be organized and modular. So something like.>>

I know there are options like the Front Runner Wolfe Pack, https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/us/storage-systems/front-runner-wolf-pack.html , but I don't really see what they offer that is much better than the options that I listed above. I really just need to go somewhere like Home Depot and just look at them in person. Anything can look nice over the interwebs, but feel flimsy in real life. But I figure 2-4 totes would go a long way to consolidating and organizing stuff I have in the cargo area.
And then, later if I decide to build something, I can just repurpose the totes for other duties.

The action packer line is great for the money.
And I agree, drawers add weight. Avoid them if you don't need them.

Picked up a couple Sterilite 27 gal. storage totes. This seemed to be the right size for my needs. I have one for mostly recovery, tire inflation / repair, and whatnot. The other is for tools, gas nozzle, a few spare parts and odds and ends. The other items that either didn't fit, or I wanted to leave them easy to grab are my med kit, jack stand, shovel, water, straps, and a roadside emergency kit (really only the cheap jumper cables are useful). I will probably pick up better jumpers and or a portable car battery jump box for my needs.
But the totes are cool. They have slots so that you can tie them down, are stackable, and seem sturdy enough for my needs. They were $13 each, so I figured I'd give them a shot. I can always repurpose them for some sort of household duty should I change my mind.

It's funny how we build something and than realize we should have done XXXX instead. I built my first 3rd GEN and when I did my 2nd 3rd GEN I've done it differently and spent time more than anything planning each step of the way. Though I won't lie some of my earlier purchases were more of get it done verus wait till I had money (wish I had gone different with my lift is my biggest thing).
I've been reading a lot more lately in the last few weeks and catching up on people's builds and realized that I am slowly reworking mine now that I got my dust/soft top down for the rear of my vehicle. So happy with how everything is turning out it's hard to not jump ahead...to much.

OEM eBay TB kit, Denso radiator, w/ upper and lower hoses, and valve cover seals done. I was going to start chipping away at these myself, but this is my sole DD, the weather has not been complying (doesn't really fit in my garage anymore). And the tipping point was stopping by to talk to my mechanic friend. He's a good guy, likes working on Toyotas, and has a great sense of humor. He runs a small independently owned shop that is pretty much a one man operation. He casually let me know that his wife of 44 years died on Valentine's day after just a few days with pneumonia. So I decided to turn it over to him to send some business his way. So this made me feel better about spending a little money. And by the looks of my dry, cracked TB, it was beyond time the PO said he changed it, but it looked like it was the original. I am currently sitting at 227,342 miles feeling fresh. Lol.
So I should be set for a little while. I am about to go into my busy season at work where it is common to work 20+ days straight. So it's nice to have these items out of the way.
Also saw this cool Land Rover while I was down there.

Hahaha, yeah. Those guys are hit and miss. What a fiasco... But I should be set with some of the major routine stuff out of the way. Now, if finances allow, I can start saving up for fun stuff again.
I am really excited to see you get all locked up and regeared. I was looking at a picture you posted the other day with your dual swing outs. Such a cool set up you are running. Do you leave your hi-lift mounted, or do you only mount for trips?
Have you been driving the Tacoma much?
