Road driving on low tire pressure

I was off-roading yesterday and decided to check out a trail that required driving 6 miles of pavement to get to. I was aired down to 22 psi and I decided to drive the 6 miles that way. I drove 45-50mph (fairly lonely road).

Anyone have any idea where this might fall on the tire damage/longevity curve? Is this something I can continue to do from time to time? LT rated tires, btw.

Heat is the problem. The faster you go the more heat generated. Excess heat can cause tread separation. I think you're probably OK. When I traverse between trails when aired down, I try to keep it under 40, especially when it's hot weather. To me, ~6 miles is approaching the long side of safe if you do it on a regular basis. No hard fast rules here, just personal judgment.

I think your OK for short distances if you keep the speed down like you are. Most of the time when I have a need to do that is at higher altitudes when it's not as hot. Heat build up is a tire's worst enemy. It breaks it down internally.
