Road Trip Boston to VA Beach

Wifey and I are going to stretcher the 4Runners legs next week and drive from boston down to Virginia beach. I just replaced pads/rotors and a caliper, I'll be swapping out all the diff fluids this weekend so she'll be road ready.

Anyone have any road tripping tips, general or 4Runner specific?

Also, if there's anyone who's done this drive or a portion of it or who lives in the area, what's the most scenic way to head down there?

I belong to an OBX forum since I own a house down there. Visitors from the north east rave about coming down Route 13 on the Eastern Shore. You avoid a lot of I-95 traffic around Baltimore and D.C. You get to take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and you can stop and eat and walk around and take pictures mid way across. The bridge spills out right in the northern section of VA Beach. The OBX is only an hour south of VA Beach and you can drive on the northern beaches. Have fun! This is my favorite time of year at the beach.

i miss the beach .. though nags head is better .. being from Virginia i always felt va beach was too crowded though there is alot to do

My sister and husband live in Newport News, which it about 45 min - 1 hour north of VA beach. I have traveled every way possible to get down there. I hate the drive so much now that I try to fly down there to see her now..

Route 13 is probably the most scenic out of all of them.
The toll for the Chesapeake bay bridge and tunnel is or was $13.00 last time I went across.. It's 13 miles long.
Route 64 from Richmond south is probably one of the most boring stretches of road I've been on.

Watch out for Delaware police. Got pulled over and a hefty fine for doing 10 over speed limit..

Stay away from I-95 you may even be able to ride Route 1 down that extends pretty far down

I just checked myself and the toll is now $15.00.
My mistake, shore to shore in about 18 miles long..
