Road Trip Update!

Well, made it to Florida last night. We left Arizona at 7PM local time Friday and drove straight through to New Orleans. Checked into our hotel at midnight. Great city, wish we were there longer, but had to leave New Orleans at 2PM Sunday and got to Orlando at 2AM Monday morning. Here are the details so far:
2200.2 total miles. $323 total in gas. We got gas 9 times ranging from $26 to $43 to fill the tank. I tried to never let the needle touch a quarter tank. Farthest I've gotten is 284 miles, but again I never let it get to a quarter tank and the A/C has not been off at all.

Truck is running amazing! There's been no problems at all.

As far as fellow 4Runners, I saw a 3rd Gen pull over to help out a 2nd Gen on the side of the road in Louisiana. And then a 3rd Gen pulled up next to me at one point and starting pointing at around the wheel arches. I figured they were admiring the look of my rig :) They had horrible rear sag.

Anyway hope this inspires others to hit the roads!

Its always nice to see other take road trips!
the end of next month i plan on driving from Rexburg, Idaho back home to KC, Missouri. its like 1300 miles. i want to do it non stop. (ive done it before with another driver but this time ill be alone.

i will have all my stuff loaded in the back. say another 600-700 lbs of stuff. but i know my gas millage wont be quite as good as yours.

Nice, is Florida your final destination or just a stop along the way?

My wife and I just did a 7,770 mile trip, just got back June 9th, 27 days.
Burned 391.66 Gallons for an average of 19.83mpg.
We were loaded with about 800# of camping gear and food and clothes etc, had to bring everything because it was a month long trip and going from 20 degrees to 100 degrees.
I suppose if we carried about 600# less crap we would have gotten over 20mpg average.
I had a few tanks that I got between 340-355 miles on, but I had just bought a nice GPS with voice command so we could see every gas station ahead and exactly where they are, plus with the Ultra Gauge I knew within a few miles of how much gas/distance I had left so felt pretty safe getting under 1/4 tank in most places.
We did about 1/2 camping and 1/2 hotels, camped at the Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree, Yellowstone.
Main destination was Bend Oregon where we stayed for 6 days, rented a Condo on the River.

I kept a couple dozen 5 hour Energy shots in the ice chest for the driving.

:worthless

It sounds like a good trip. The 3rd gen 4runner is one capable beast to say the least. I am contemplating taking mine to the Keys with the GF, but I think she wants to take here X5.:rtfm:

Snap some pics on the way back and post them.

I saw your thread a little while back. I was worried about gas mileage until I read about your trip. That is one hell of a road trip. I would love to do something like that someday.

Once done in Florida we are turning back and heading to Arizona. I'm estimating about 4500 miles total for our trip because we will be driving around Florida as well.

One interesting note: I checked the transmission fluid level after a good 8 hours straight driving to start our trip and it read COLD. I put my hand on my trans cooler and it was cool to the touch. I guess its all that air blasting it. I think I might pick up a scangauge while here at Autozone to watch all the levels because I'm curious.

Personally I do not like the X5. I drive a lot of them at my work. Convince her to take the 4Runner! haha. I'm lucking my GF loves our truck. I'll get posted in the next few days. I should have taken more, but I'm a photographer for my job so sometimes the last thing I want to do is take pictures haha.

I can relate, I've got 1200 coming up on me! It's only 25 hours. My record so far is 14 hours straight. Was a long day!

Well we made it back to Arizona. Total trip was 4766.3 miles. Filled the truck up a total of 22 times. 10 to get to Florida and 10 to get back with 2 in Florida. We drove straight through leaving Orlando at 1PM Saturday and getting into Scottsdale at 8:45PM Sunday night. Not bad timing and it was nice to gain the 3 hours on the time change. My girlfriend only drove 2 hours total, I did the rest! It worked out best that way cause between her and the dog it was entertaining. Nothing to report 4Runner wise. Never had any problems. All I need to do now is get an oil change again.
