Had the chance to stop by and meet bimrunner yesterday and check out his runner. Thanks to that, I didn't sleep very good last night, I tried counting truck parts, but it didn't work. Anyway, thanks to bimrunner for talking and letting my look and his truck and ask several questions. But, now after researching tires, I am left a little stumped. Was thinking about 285/75R17's, which vary in size, but now, possible a 305/70. Here's what I have found;
BF Goodrich - Mud Terrain T/A K2M
LT285/75R17 - E Range LT305/70R17 - E Range
33.9" X 11.3" at 62 lbs 33.9" X 12.2" at 64 lbs
Goodyear MTR Kevlar
LT305/70R17 - D Range
34.1" X 12.2" at 64 lbs
Toyo Open Country MT
LT285/75R17 - E Range
34.1" X 11.6" at 71 lbs
Maxxis Bighorn MT-762
LT305/75R17 - D Range
34" X 12.2"
Nitto Terra Grappler Mud Terrain
LT285/75R17 - E Range
34.09" X 11.57"
As you can see, there's not much difference between the sizes other than width. My three top choices Goodyear, BFG and the Toyo. Fully aware of the fender and body mount issues, also the weight, but as you can see, they Toyo is not that much heavier per tire, but multiplied by 5, is about 40 lbs. So the real question becomes width. Any input on the 11" vs 12" tire or the overall performance of the tire, such as BFG's getting harder tread after about a year?
