"Rock Crawling 4Runner Videos!"

G'day T4R team,

I watched these amateur vids last night and found them incredibly entertaining; just thought I'd share them with you. I never realized that when you go out "Off-Roading", you go out WITH your truck, but may very well come home ...WITH-OUT IT!

Yes I would/have.
These are my wheeling buds. I was on that trip but was a day later than this run.
It is amazing what a modified IFS 4runner can do.

I don't have half an hour to spare right now to watch the video. What are the crib notes? Did someone flop a truck or something?

I think when you take your vehicle off road you're always aware that what you're doing is dangerous and there's the possibility of damage to the truck or personal injury. Then again, with the way a lot of people drive I don't think it's any worse than taking your truck out on the pavement either. As soon as I get my bumpers and winch I'll be taking a trip out to Moab in my 5th gen...

Hi Intruder,

What I posted is a series of collective amateur "Rock crawling/stream crossing" videos, featuring 2'nd thru 5'th Gen 4Runners.

What I found interesting, is the degree of modification that went into some of these trucks, vs the level of risk involved in the investment. Some of these trucks 'appear' to be "street legal" (really can't be sure, I claim no knowledge of this activity), which suggests that they have a practical function as well.

I don't know about you, but I can't afford to wreck my primary means of transportation on a Sunday aftn, and go to work on Mon as if nothing had happened; especially if it affected my family (this scenario is only speculative on my part).

But here, there are many videos linked to this one "you tube" site; I started off looking for "Reviews" for 2013 4Runners...e.g., "Car and driver", "Motor Trend"," Edmonds"...etc, and ended up enjoying these amateur "off-roaders", risking it all for the game. Check it out when you can.

Well, that's a choice each individual has to make. Personally I've had far more damage done to my truck by other drivers on city streets than I have off road. Just like with anything, you have to know your limits and those of your vehicle when you take it off road (though pushing those limits is fun too). Start with easy trails and work your way up to the tougher stuff - I can assure you that the guys in the video probably didn't start on the toughest trails in Moab. Go out with people who have experience and learn from them. I'd never been off road in my life - not even as a passenger - until I got my 4Runner a couple years ago and now I'm on the trails as often as possible.

I guess it's like anything else; as you've indicated. Say, If you were to drive a street legal "Drag race" rig, it's probably great fun, until that faithful day when everything goes horribly wrong. There'd be no shortage of tears, and...(Lots~o~bills)! Some hobbies can be extremely costly.

I believe I did see one, possibly in one of the galleries, just after the main video that I posted. I think I watched about 30 videos between last night and today; not sure which gallery it was in though. Sorry.

If I see it again, I'll post it.

I assume that you're referring to the 3rd gen, "Rock crawlers", and not the 5th gen demos in my last post above??

Okay you guys,

Now I know some of you are 'True' 4Runner mod aficionados, and can execute every build scheme that you can dream up (with one hand tied behind your back). I've been watching some of these modified truck vids from late last night, up until this afternoon.

Now, I'd really like to see some of your own, personal workmanship in operation, posted "Here" on video...please don't be modest or conscientious; I'm aware of what some of you are capable of!

If ever there was a time to be ...bold, cocky, conceited, showy, abrasive, "ass on shoulders", arrogant, uppity, busiey, brag~a~docious, heady...etc, It's now!!! lol

So please...share with us some of those precious home videos of your truck in action! rigtec
