Rockford-Fosgate opinions?

I'd get a second opinion...

I've had a ton of Rockford Fosgate equipment in the past and have had very good luck with them--besides the subwoofers I tended to blow because I wanted to see how loud I could get them, but hey I was in highschool and that's just what you do...he he

My only advice would be to go to a reputable audio shop--ask around to see who has a good reputation for being honest and knowledgeable and show them the specs of the proposed system and have them come up with something that is a similair price.

You must have an exceptionally good Best Buy in your area because usually they are not known for being good installers (usually very young and unexperienced because they work for less than the older very experienced installers), but if you get a relationship going with a stereo shop a lot of times they will bend over backwards for you if you ever have any problems later or want to change the way they installed something.

You have an awesome piece of machinery in your truck and don't take a stereo install lightly it's very easy for an installer to butcher your vehicle if he is unexperienced or "lazy".

Circuit City will also install items that you didn't buy from them, at least the one by me will. However I won't let them or Best Buy install items in my 4Runner as I prefered to have a more experience installers.
 
I called the 800 number on the Crutchfield website yesterday and I spoke to one of their consultants and I gave him the rundown on all the audio equipment that I had purchased and was planning on installing into my 4Runner. He told me that I had some good stuff and told me that I was in for a real treat and that I would be very pleased with my new system after it was installed. He told me that he worked on comission and that he only made money when he sold stuff but that he was not going to try and sell me anything when I had good stuff already. I was willing to buy new stuff from him and take the stuff I had back to the store but he advised me to go for it with the stuff that I already had. It's all going in on Thursday and I can't wait to get my 4Runner back!
 
Thanks for asking Timo, I think it sounds incredible. We changed the rear coaxial speakers that we were going to use out for component speakers and used one set of the tweeters up front and attached the other set onto the rear speakers and through crossovers, we created components for the front using the 6 X 9's. There are so many settings on the HU. It has a built in EQ and many filters so it's going to be a while before I get it sounding exactly the way I want it to especially since I have to learn about filters and EQ settings along with some of the other audio settings that are Kenwood specific. I am also now working on getting rid of all the rattling my 4Runner makes now. I got the rattling license plate problem taken care of and the rattling gas cap door as well, but there's something in my roof that's not part of the moonroof, it's near the back kinda over the back seat and I am going to have to figure out how to get rid of that rattle and my spoiler rattles against my hatch in addition to my entire hatch rattling at certain frequencies. This is all just going to take some time to work through, but overall, I am incredibly pleased with the new system and the installation job I got.

how did you get your back window wiper to stop rattling?
 
I stll have to work on the rear windshield wiper rattle also. I think I'm going to try putting some little black pads and cover them with little pieces of felt on the little plastic holder where the wiper rests. The louder rattle back there is coming from the spoiler and it's so loud that I hardly notice the rear windshield wiper rattle. I think working that spoiler rattle out is going to take some thought and some work.
 
Well, there really isn't much to see. It's just a standard after-market install. Kinda boring but here's the HU. It has a graphic that I like of a racecar that turns and stuff while I'm driving like a video game. (it's such a hassle trying to figure out pixels to upload.) Let me try it again.

And one final shot. I didn't take pictures of the front and rear speakers because there's nothing to see because they're in the doors. Like I said, it's just a standard aftermarket install, but it does sound great! I'm very pleased...still working out all the rattles. I've got them all except for one in the roof near the back and the spoiler.

Very clean install...congrats on an awesome vehicle and a worthy audio system!

Have you sound deadened your runner yet? In my past systems just deadening the panel from the inside took care of a lot of rattles on the outside. While it is very time consuming it may be worth your time to deaden the roof...ugh...not a fun job.
 
Thanks. I'm going to have to take a Sunday or something and do that just to get all of them for once and for all. So far I've done all the easier stuff, the hatch and the gas door. But I'm going to have to go all the way through my whole ride. Right now, there's this rattle under the headliner and I already know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow, that is, dropping my headliner and get rid of that one because it's driving me crazy.
 
If you drop your headliner make sure you deaden it while your up there (you may be planning this anyway)...let us know how that goes..I've heard it's a real PITA
 
Hey Mixed, nice system, I really like the way the amps look on the back of the seats (wish I could do this). I do have a question on how your box is secured in the back? It looks like it's just sitting there and thats not a great idea (if this is the case).

Anyway, congrats on the new system.

I intentionally had the installer 'not' secure the box so that I could easily take it out when I needed the cargo space. Why is 'not' mounting the box not a good idea?
