Thanks Pitbull...despite my luck, I really do believe these are great engines...otherwise it would have left me stranded.

Picking up a used engine from LQK tomorrow night. After ordering some parts, hopefully the truck will be up and running soon.

LKQ is great. They deliver for you and have a 6 month 6,000 mile warranty.

The only caveat is that you have to replace the timing belt and water pump - and have proof of said operation.

I just bought a 2003 honda Civic 4 banger for $280 from them plus $150 core charge. I had the core ready for them when the dropped the motor off and they took the charge off.

Take a look at such things at the valve cover gaskets, oil cooler o-rings, rear main seal, and oil pan seal before the install of the motor.

Hmm...that is good to know. Since we are doing our own timing belt and water pump, I wonder if just having the receipt of the parts is acceptable, or do I need an actual receipt from a shop to install?

So far in my telephone communication with LKQ, they seem to be very professional - unlike some of the other salvage yards I have spoken to. But LKQ didn't mention the requirement of the belt and pump, they just recommended doing that plus others (gaskets, rear main seal, etc). I will be sure to clarify that when I pick up the motor.
