This. Poison seems the easy way, but it's a really bad idea. As said, they just crawl inside somewhere to die.... and you really don't want that to happen. Spring traps + peanut butter FTW.

I had what appeared to be mice set up residence in my in cabin air filter compartment. I couldn't figure out why I kept having leaves in my glove box. When I went to clean my air filter apparently the mice is set up quite a nice home there. It appears they took part of the firewall felt to use as a blanket they had ketchup packets which were empty, apparently that was dinner.
Mice can squeeze down to a very small size and find your way in almost anywhere. My parents had a whole bunch of mice living in their motorhome and they had to have everything rewired.
I was lucky I didn't have any damage. Apparently the mice were just looking for a place to get out of the cold.
My parents told me about an all natural repellent for rodents. It is called Fresh Cab. I placed two packages in my 4Runner ...one in the area under the hood where it appears that they got in and the other I placed in the compartment in the rear of where I store my Jack. This solved my problem very quickly.
If you live in an area that has a whole lot of rodents you can also get devices that mount under your hood that emit a noise that the rodents don't like. My parents use these as well as the Fresh cab in order to protect all their vehicles. They do live out in the country.
I hope this helps. At least you wouldn't have to worry about a mouse dying somewhere in your car. That would be a nightmare. The Fresh cab just keeps them away and if they're there it runs them off they don't like the smell.

sorry to hear that happened... I am also dealing with a rabbit which chewed up some wiring of my toyota FRS =(

That's one I have never heard of before, what makes you so sure it was a rabbit that chewed your wires, rabbits aren't known for chewing on wires??
