I've had the rack for about 3 years now. Used silicone at the joints to help with rust. After about a year and a half, rust started to come through the paint. I used some rattle can Bed-liner and all is good now. My advices is to put another layer of paint on it when you get a chance.

This is what I want to do, I'm worried about the max weight though. Rola says 150 LBS. I need to be able to put a couple hundred up there. I plan on welding L shaped angle iron like you did in the front all around the rack.

I picked up an awning for my 3rd Gen, but struggled with how to mount it to the round bars on the Rola rack. After looking at over-priced aluminum mounts online, I watched an episode of MacGyver and then headed to Home Depot. I found that conduit hangers are perfect mounts for the Rola rack. I believe I used a #1 for the small lower tube, and a #2.5 for the upper tube. I then stretched 3/4" steel plate between the two and secured it with 1/2" screws. I made 5 mounts in total and ended up with the perfect flat surface to attach an awning.

Would someone be able to post a link to the correct extension? I want to make sure we are getting the correct one! I found ones by Rola / Reese (same company, or at least same made-in-Chine product, right?), but I am not sure it is correct. Thanks!
