The available cargo space is reduced, and it will effect the fit of a rubber cargo mat, like a husky liner for example. That's all I can think of.
 
I bought one over the summer and have been hesitant to put it in because I'm making a cargo box/sleeping platform and im not sure there would be much room.
 
Hmmm snow if your thinking about selling it lmk..May be interested. There was one on ttora for $25 a couple months back..
 
I bought one over summer too. I decided not to bother and am selling mine to LINYrunner in about 20 minutes...

I'm not sure it would be worth the shipping. The shipping would probly cost more than what i'd sell it for. Have you checked any salvage yards around you? Mine was $30, and they had a bunch of them.

Unless you can weld, you gotta find someone to cut 2" of the front legs and reweld the mounting brackets back on. That's kinda a negative. It doesnt just bolt in.

Well, that might be true, but I certainly wouldnt want to build a cage to have it only bolt to the body. Between the DOM tubing of the cage and the sheetmetal of the body, which do you think will fail first? Which do you think failed first in this case:

The hard bit for the 4Runner will be tying the front tubes to the frame since it sits directly on the wheel arch.
 
Yeah....I know that a tie in isnt easy....but it is necessary IMO (<---key phrase).

That moosetwang's first failure was....well, it's a ford. Second was the tires....third...fourth....yadda yadda.
 
IN a high speend roll over no it wont work as a cage. but in a low speed roll over it has been proven time and again to protect. When we modify to fit our trucks we actually bolt them in the same way they came from the factory in a 1st gen. I have seen plenty of these help/ hold up on the trail after a roll over. Is it as strong as an actual cage bolted to the frame? Not even close but it will help in low speed trail conditions.

I am going to do one in my truck for a couple reasons:

1) moderate protection for low speed accident for my kids
2) Place to mount my Fire Extinguisher
3) Place to mount my CO2 Air Tank

Down side partially blocks access to the side compartment in our cargo area. Doesnt really limit cargo IMO since most things are stored between the wheel wells. I am also thinking of doing a slep platform storage drawer just need to get some Jig saw skills to make fit around the legs.
 
I think I'll go for the search around here to find one, welding is not problem for me and I'll have a look under my truck to see if I can have a solid place to mount it. thanks guys for the answers...:hatsoff:
 
i know this is an old thread but dose anyone have pics of it in their rig and how they cut it? i just picked one up for $10 and want to do this, but it was a PITA to even fit in the runner, i know i have to chop the front legs 2" to make it fit right. any one have a build thread with this in it, or a wright up on this!?
