Guilty. '11 Cavalry Blue FJ--Still have it actually. Not going to lie; I've never had any real love for it. It's purchase was driven by my wife and despite my best efforts, I had to sacrifice my '12 DCSB 4x4 Tacoma instead of the FJ when I bought the TE.

Had a 2007 FJ which I traded in 2011 for a TE.

Main reason - two large dogs (Rotti and Shepard/Rotti) which did not really fit that well in the FJ.

The FJ was great but for my needs the 4Runner is a far superior vehicle.

I traded my 2013 FJ in on my 4Runner. The main reason I made the switch was overall room. Having a family made it hard to want to take the FJ out since it was so small.

I do miss it tho...

T4R and FJ

I had my TE and had an FJ for a little while. Loved it but didn't like having two vehicles to up keep. So I sold the Blue FJ and built the TE.

Had a 2011 FJ TT and loved it but it was no fun for hauling the family around. I bought a 2014 TEP and love it more.

2007 FJ and 2013 4-Runner TE. Decided to do a massive re-do of the FJ and make it into a quasi-hardshell buggy so I got the Runner as my DD. Exceedingly happy with the Runner. Swapped the entire upgraded suspension from the FJ over to it (Icon coilovers, Icon UCA's, Sonoran Steel LCA's, Icon rear shocks, Toytec rear springs, Sonoran Steel rear Panhard bar). Installed Shrockworks front and CBI Offroad rear bumpers on it as well. My favorite item on the Runner is the larger gas tank. The number of gas stops I have to make has dropped dramatically. Also, not having that vertical (rock magnet) windshield on long drives is very nice (I'm on my 4th windshield for the FJ).

FJC - '07 Black Cherry 6-speed with Icons & Camburg lift and some cool Spring Tail bits. Now passed to the lovely Mrs. 9mmMike.

Came back to 4Runner because I really missed my 3rd Gen 5-speed. If this 5th gen is half as good as the 3rd, I'll be happy. Sure miss that 3rd gen though.

I had a 2007 FJ 6MT. Did quite a few mods to it, made it exactly how I wanted it, got married, sold it, got divorced, got a 2015 4Runner, starting to mod.

Present! Still have both….Still running the 08 every two weeks back & forth to the airport, and use the 15 TRDPro as a daily driver/family truckster (better gas mileage than the FJ or the wife's Tundra.

I still have my 2008 FJC.

Last year I went to the dealer with the intent of buying a new 2014 FJC TTUE.

While there I saw the new 4R's. I was taken by the look of the front end on the trail premium they had there. I also really liked the nautical blue color. I test drove a new FJC and the 4runner that day. Went back home and did some research on both vehicles and a couple of weeks later decided I wanted the 4R instead. I had previously owned a 1992 4R that I bought new and sold in 2003, so that might have helped me in my decision.

There are a lot of things I like about my 4R over the FJC: Smoother ride, better gas mileage (about 2mpg better), more creature comforts, more room in the rear and cargo area. I have a 3 year old, and when we took trips in the FJC the wife would have to climb back to help her eat. Once back, she could not get out without me opening the door, which was a pain. I was also concerned about how she and the baby would get out if we were ever in an accident. I've taken both vehicles on 8+ hour drives. The 4R is more comfortable than the FJC.

What I like about the FJC: throttle response, the way the brakes feel, the stereo sounds better, the ease of oil changes, and the engine sounds.

I don't do any 4 wheeling, with the exception of a long dirt road to my brother in laws house, so I can't compare them in that area.

For me I would say if I could get the throttle on the 4R to be as responsive as the FJC it would be the perfect vehicle for me.

Former FJ owner here too. I admit I really loved my FJ. I actually considered buying another one after a brief stint in a Jeep Unlimited, but as a former 3rd Gen 4runner owner I knew how much I loved the extra space of a 4R. Then when I saw the styling on the 5th Gens I was intrigued. I liked the 10-13s but I love the styling on the 14/15s. So the 4R, its better ride, 4 full doors, more space and its creature comforts was a no brainer for me.

Still have my 07 FJ. It is used for trips and wheeling. It is built for my purpose. Only has 30,000 miles on it. Still have my 05 4Runner sr5 4x4 with v-8. Bought a 14 TE. It is nice, but needs a v-8.

This thread really hits home as I am a lightly modded FJ cruiser owner looking to move into a 4runner due to a growing family, dog, etc. I really am attached to my FJ, but it just seems to get less and less practical as time goes by. It has been a great, solid vehicle. I would only replace it with a 4runner. Looking fwd to 4 doors, sunroof, and rear window that goes down! Thanks for sharing all the info.
