I have this one and it works fairly well. Don't remember it being that expensive though.

I'm looking for a bike rack and my 4runner doesnt have a hitch. I'm looking into racks similar to the model posted above but I'm having trouble visualizing how these types of racks would fit.

Does this style mount to the roof or the rear window? Anyone have a pic showing this style in action??

Personally, I would hit the boneyard and just buy a hitch.
That trunk mount rack is exactly that - for a trunk.

Hanging a few thousand dollars worth of bikes off your vehicle
demands the correct parts to not end in damage and frustration.

I have a Yakima on the hitch and second the idea of just getting a hitch. For safer transport I fold down the rear seats and have a fork mount on a 2x6 that holds everything inside. The only issue is that the fold down is not level and I have to remove the bike seat. However the total cost is about 20 bucks for the fork mount and 2x 6.

Don't see which bike rack you got.

But I have a Land Cruiser and a 4runner.

Have the nice Thule 4-car Vertex hitch-mounted bike rack.

But I use the Craiglist $50 2-bike rack I got off of Craigslist more.

For short round town trips to the trails, the $50 gets used a ton.
