Hi all, please recommend a luggage carrier for my 2000. I looked at some and they range anywhere from 36.00 for a Smittybuilt to 400.00. I don't need anything that will carry an elephant. I would like one that mounts to the existing factory roof rack so I don't have to do any drilling. Thanks.

I picked this one up for 20 bucks from a friend... Obviously added the license plate and some stickers... But it looks pretty good imo!

I'd wait to see what MStudt has to offer as his parts look top notch. If you need something immediately I'd look at Yakima or Thule as they are user friendly and you can add/take off accessories for different activities.

I wonder if putting the license plate up there is legal? I am sure it varies from state to state and depends on who might stop you regarding the placement.

(2) (a) Every number plate shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle to which it is assigned, so
as to prevent the plate from swinging, and shall be horizontal at a height not less than twelve inches
from the ground, measuring from the bottom of such plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible,
and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible.
So it just needs to be front and rear, visible and above 12" from the ground.

It's illegal... But apparently so are my subs and my tail lights too? So im not worried about it. If a cop wants to pull me over then he will find any excuse anyways so I really don't care. Cops will be cops

I just received and put this rack on my 4runner earlier today. Took me 20min, directly onto the existing racks.

I will be. My 4runner is in the shop at the moment. I'm hoping to be able to model the first one next weekend. The I need to put it into SolidWorks, and send it to the cutter. I'm hoping to have these for within the next 30 days. Pricing should be low since mine would be labor intensive at all. I'll be sure to start a thread showing the first design. I think I'm going to offer a 3/4 and full length rack.

You'll have to wait until I get the model done. I'm going to start off with 3rd Gen's, but the 4th & 5th Gen's will be right behind. I just need to find someone local with one to get a roof contour.

Transmission is crapping out. If it weren't 96 degrees with 200% humidity I'd work on it. This is one of those situations where a warranty sounds better then me working on it.
I should be able to work on the roof rack this weekend. I've been thinking about this design my entire trip, and can't what to get it going. it'll ship in one box through UPS, and will require assembly. I'm leaning towards having a powder coating option well.
