I have a new 2019 LTD on the way here in BC Canada.

My sales person has been a real straight shooter so far.
She mentioned a 4 runner buyer who installed after market cross bars.
And a leak developed around the sunroof.
This brought up Toyota warranty issues.

So I was advised to go OEM and dealer installed at time of purchase to keep warranty intact.

Consider this:
I am retirement age so my off road needs are light compared to many members here. Will carry 2 small kayaks at most...
4runner will stay stock for now. Originally thought to go better quality crossbars after warranty is done if the need is there.

Now I am on the fence.

It'd be pretty hard to pin a leaking sunroof on bars nowhere near the sunroof.

I bet your salesperson was talking about rails not crossbars. I installed Whispbar S18 Through Bars on my 2018 T4R. There was absolutely no drilling involved. The hardest part was being patient when removing the plastic end caps on the rails so I didn't break them. I carry two 11'6" SUPs (stacked) on a Lockrack and a 12' kayak on Whispbar J cradles. The bars sit high and clear the antenna easily. Love my setup. You will not get 2 kayaks on the factory racks without J cradles or vertical stackers. Side by side will require longer crossbars.

Malone aero 65 inch

Anyone have experience with these? Looking at the Malone website it says a 2020 4runner is only compatible with the 50’ or 58’ versions. I’ve got two kayaks that i was wanting to just mount upside down/flat and tie down side by side. So the 65 inch would be great for a day trip. But again says it is not compatible but can’t figure out why. Any ideas?

I wanted something different too. I ended up designing something to meet my needs specifically. I wanted 8020 bars and the factory rails. This is what I ended up coming up with.

I ended up producing a bunch and sent a set to a member here to test [MENTION=200736]ElectroBoy[/MENTION]

Whisbar Fitment

Did you have to do any customization to install the Whisbar. Yakima website indicates they do not fit the Gen5 4Runner. Also do you know which width your bars are?

We use Thule crossbars and the Hullavators. Really think that if your gonna use the hullavators for lighter kayaks they would work perfect for you. We use them for Hobie fishing kayaks and they require a little help getting them up.

Yep, the steel especially is very rigid, you won't see any flex unless you stand on it.

They have more clearance than the factory crossbars, so shouldn't be an issue.

The full and 7/8 uses a different crossbar, right?

I was looking at the option of upgrading the stock crossbar to be able to install an alu-cab clamshell type RTT. It would be 90" X 50". Is the stock side rails able to handle the weight? I understand on most full roof rack, they still only use 4 mounting points. Does LFD use additional point (require drilling) up front?

Also, roofnest is recommending the malone aero crossbar to mount onto the stock rails. What do you all think ?

The James Baroud tent bounced when it was on factory rails at high speed. I switched 7/8. The tent was very stable and it was shaky little. I ended up putting on my Tacoma's bed box that can fit in my garage door.

Right away I noticed LFD has a wind fairing cross bar. Do you have that? I have been hesitant to put cross bars on until I really need them due to noise. I was wondering if that LFD wind fairing cross bar would cut down on the noise.

A little late, but I have the LFD fairing, and it removes all whistling/noise/vibration from the LFD cross bars.
