roof rack mounting

My 92 doesnt have a roof rack so i am going to make one. My question is what mounts the factory rack to the roof. I am thinking of useing rivnuts to mount in the roof, but was wondering if anybody else has done this. Thanks in advance for the info

Granted mine is a first gen, but I went with a set of Yakima towers and accessories to mount an extended cargo basket up top. It holds my body weight with little problem and I like that it does not require drilling. With a truck that spends the majority of its time on the road I try to drill and cut on it as little as possible, but that is just my feeling on the matter.
