Roof Rack Question

Hey gents,



I've got a pretty killer deal on a custom roof rack for cheap due to my proximity to Mexico.



Only question I have is how to mount it to my 97 Limited. It has the stock roof rack on it. I'd prefer to not mount it to the cross bars and instead I'd like to mount it to the two parallel stock rails which would allow it to be close to the roof.



Are there pre-made mounting solutions available that you guys have used or did you just grab random hardware from Lowes/Home Depot?



I'm at a loss for how to get this thing installed. :lookout:

My custom rack was designed to be mounted using the slider pieces the crossbars use to mount in the parallel bars. If you remove one of the crossbars you'll see them. Don't know the size but it's a standard metric size. The only issue is that my racks bars line up perfectly with the parallel bars. Not sure if yours does. You might be able to rig up some sort of clamps or something.

I did a rough measurement of 39" across and gave it to him. The length fit on my 97 but the width did not as the guy just makes these racks. So he made one 39" wide.

So this new one should technically fit the dimensions of the stock roof rack but you never know. I'm looking for different mounting options. I've seen quite a few people mount them right on the cross bars. It works, but I'd prefer a much more flush look, closer to the roof.

here's a photo of mine. I have little tabs welded on that bolt into the stock little "feet" that slide into the stock rails.

Should not use a "rough" measurement. The bars have to line up almost perfectly if you are going to drill through the bar and bolt into the foot. If you do what the previous poster did with the tabs then you can custom build and locate the tabs but then you have to weld them to the rack.
