I'm trying to pick side and rear lights for a Gobi style roof rack. Primary use will be to illuminate campsite, work area, trail during slow crawl, etc. General illumination is most important so I'm looking for a wide flood pattern and quite honestly, I don't want them too bright.
Specifically with the sides, I'm debating between a small 2x2/2x3/3x3 style led pod or a slim single row 6-10" led bar. The biggest advantage I see to the slim bar is that it can be installed with minimal protrusion from the rack itself and will likely work better with an awning should I choose to add one in the future. The pod, however, would give me the option to angle it slightly forward or backwards rather than only 90* from the vehicle.
Similar arguments could be made for the rear. The tricky part with the rear is getting them mounted high enough to minimize the dark void created by the roof/rear spoiler while also keeping a low profile and minimizing wind resistance/noise.
I've searched around but have really only found "I run this or that". I'm looking for any specific insight or advice y'all have between he two options.
