The Thule bars are plenty strong and the problem with what you've posted is that (1) whatever "more useful" you get out of them is lost when you cover them up with a tent, (2) they actually sit pretty low which makes mounting the tent to the bars a *****, (3) the Thule bars are super easy to pop on and off with the tent still attached if you dont want to leave it on all the time, and (4) the Thule bars actually give you space (if you buy them wide enough) to mount other things up there if you wanted to.

Sure me lol. I used a Hitch extender then I bought some thick walled square tubing that receivers are made out of and went to town.

Yakima SkyRise 3

Hey guys. New to forum. I have gen5 TRD OR and recently purchased a Yakima sky rise 3 tent. I hate hate hate the height of the Yakima cross bars and the tents mounting rails because it’s very tall and leaves a huge gap between the tent and the roof of the car. Can I use the CVTs and Tepuis mounting rails instead of the Yakima claw mounting rails ? And install it directly to my factory side rails (not the cross bars but side rails). Let me know.

Can we all just agree that raingutter racks were the pinnacle of roof rack design? I had a FJ62 and ran Yakima roundbars...like 6 of them. I could move them, take some off, put some on. RTT, baskets, cargo boxes, bikes, kayaks...SO damn easy. Took a few minutes to go from a naked roof to full camp set up.

I actually really like the side rails, I just wish they were full length from the factory and were supported in the center. Think of all the options!

I have three yakima round bars on low rider mounts. When on a long trip I run a large Rhino Rack steel mesh platform with a wind fairing mounted to the front...or kayak cradles, or roof box or nothing.

For the cost of a rack, I can run all these different options for a helluvalot less.
