Roof Top Tents. Search isn't working.

Hi,
Did you use the search thread How to that is linked at least two times in plain view?
My signature contains the how to search thread which also explains why the default search doesn't work well.
Also in the 3rd gen section there are only a few threads that are sticky. One of them is how to search.
The search method I advised uses Google directly. So unless Google is down then (usually) there is nothing wrong with Search.

So...I'm a cheapskate...I admit it... The thought of spending that kind of coin on a tent just kills me.
Anyone find a way to just rig a regular tent on top of a platform? I've seen some things when I googled it but no real "how to" stuff.
I paid 2k for my Coleman popup in extremely good condition and it had a fridge...and two king beds, so spending the equivalent on a tent is a stretch for me.

I'm a cheapskate and can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on tent that looks to me to be about the least aerodynamic thing you could put on top of your vehicle. So I went the other way, I got a used Yakima SkyBox (about 2 bills) for my stuff and sleep in the back of the truck. Tracking my MPG on a 5 day trip from Denver to Moab, it made less than a 1 MPG difference. Plus, personally, I feel like I would have a hard time sleeping that high up in the air, but maybe I'm wrong.
i can be a bit on the cheap side as well. i bought a cvt 2 years ago. yes they are pricey. i view it as a long term investment. i'll get 15-20 years use out of it. and so far have used it more and more each year. i have 2 long trips planned this year and 1 next year already. i'm getting to be too damn old to be sleeping on the ground.
just got back from a trip to the rifle co area. with the rtt on top loaded with gear and 2 dogs i got right at 20 mpg.

I'm still getting about 18 MPG on the highway with the tent and the extra 500 pounds of armor. I will say it is an odd feeling the first time up there but you get used to it pretty quickly. My biggest reason for purchasing was my plans to head up to Glacier National Park and the surrounding areas. I would hate to have to deal with waking up to a grizzly poking around outside (not that being up higher is much better if it really wanted to get to me, but hopefully it would give me time to flip off the safety :AK47

Wish I could... we got rained out one too many times for my wife’s comfort. Hence, we have a pop up now.
So I don’t engineer so well... has anyone seen plans for a platform thing that can be affixed and then a regular tent put on top?

I dont understand? Spend $250 on a Eureka tent, doors front & rear with vestibules & you'll be bone dry. I'd rather be on the ground with a few tarps set up than stuck in a RTT in the rain.
