roof weight ?

I don't see a problem using roof basket. I use my basket to haul 3 river Kayak's
one flat two on their sides 12 footer's 50#'s each @ 70-80 mph a lot no problems.
My rack is home made has 6 attachment points using factory bolt size, weighs
46#'s. I figure the load is going to be same approx.

Ive had a caone, kayak and related stuff on top.
wonder how much the wheels and ko2's weigh, don't have a bathroom scale

You didn't say what KO2's your running, Discounttiredirect lists weight.

265/75/16 10 ply e rated, I will look at discount tires for weight, thanks for weight on wheels

using your wheel weight and the weight listed for E rated KO2's I come in at 84 pounds each

16 in wheels

I noticed you said you had a set of 16 wheels- summer tires. What gen is your 4runner. I am wanting to put some 16 wheels off a FJ on my gen 5 4 runner but being told they won’t fit. Well one dealership said they will the other said no. Any help?

Simply extend your stock roof rack

You could even bend a 90 degree Al rail to look good from the outside, or easily extend it and distribute the weight with a stock rail rivnut/ nutsert tool

A hitch basket with the receiver extension, stand tires up ratchet strap to basket
could be an option.

Even if it's just 3 in the carrier and 1 one the roof.
Those things are like $60 at Harbor Freight.
Much cheaper than a new roof or rollover damages.

There is a huge difference between static and dynamic loads on the roof.
Keep it light n low!

this is the option I am looking at, but I asked questions on another thread related to this where you showed and talked about this ( and quoted you) and you did not reply

I looked into extending the roof rack. Bought the rivnuts and cut the pieces n everything. Then I backed out of the idea when I realized how flimsy that metal is. I wouldnt trust it to hold any weight from bouncing. I made my full length roof rack which I am going to secure up front by heating up a black rail of plastic so it conforms to the roof line. Then stick it to the roof with a complete layer of 3m double sided tape. This will spread out the bouncing loads much better.

I personally don't have a need or want for a full length rack because of the lack of inner support, Kudo's to those that do.
For the ease and versatillity of hitch basket to move 4 tires is a no brainer.

I just use the full length rack for large but light items. i.e. my bike laid down and a few other things.

My oldest son, whom also owns property in Alaska ( Seward, but does not live there yet) is planning to come up late this summer and with his set up, he is bringing my tires and all my tool boxes ( car tool boxes). All my construction tools I will haul up on this trip, not on my roof. I am gonna do a full rack, but it will not be heavy stuff, clothes and lighter crap.
