Royal Purple Oil Question

So, I've been running Royal Purple synthetic 0w-20 for about the last 12000 miles (5000-17000 miles). I was talking to my dad today and mentioned the oil in passing (he has a 4Runner too a 2012 TE). He raised some concerns with this brand (he had problems with it in a race car). He said it my not even really be rated for our vehicles. It is API certified.

Do any of you guys run RP in your 4Runners or have experience with it? Should I stay away from it or am I fine.

I should also point out that I'm overseas and RP is the only 0w-20 my base carries (oil is a lot more expensive offbase). Just throwing that out there before I get a bunch of comments asking why I'm not running Mobile1 or some other brand.

No personal experience with it but I feel like your wasting money with iI have ran rotella 15w40 in just about everything. My jeep, turbo Silverado, and motorcycles. If nothing else you could step up to a 5w and maybe find something else available

Royal Purple is fine. Overpriced IMO but fine. API certified is all Toyota asks for.

I do oil changes every 5k. The mileage is the total distance I've used this brand, not how long I've gone without changing the oil.

Well that's good
The latest SN rated RP is a good oil IMO. If you want to do a little more research I suggest checking out the bobistheoilguy.com website.
Must be pretty cool to have a 4R in Belgium.
