Rubber Door Seal Problem

Well now that we have a usable SEARCH and our old pictures are now being posted, I thought I would up-date this thread. My rubber door seal had a bit of a problem. It kept coming off in the upper right corner. It would fall off the seam, just about 1/2 inch, but you could hear the wind noise. I tried moving it around a bit, but nothing worked. I finally used some glue, my glue was called "Goop", not a great name, but it worked. I applied some to the inside and got a stick braced it against the pavement and the seam and let it sit for a hour.

It has been on for about 5 months and seems to be fine. If I would put it in again, I would start at the bottom middle and work my way to the right, anti-clock wise. That way the end would not be at the upper right.

My factory seal is like this also and I just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. I wondered if this was a common problem or not, so its comforting to know its not specific to my truck only (had me wondering if maybe something had happened during previous ownership that caused this). I think i've got some jb weld out in the garage, that along with your "bracing stick" should do the trick. Great write up btw.

Anybody have a line on a reasonably priced source for these? Most of the ones I've seen are about $90 after shipping costs. There's $40 ones from Thailand but I don't want to get burned on those. There's some used ones floating around on Ebay, but that's another 'penny wise pound foolish" sort of situations.

The bottom of my driver side seal is totally chewed up.

I noticed a new response from my old thread and guess what, I need a new seal. It is all broken up at the bottom just like before. I kind of forget how I did it, it was nice to re-cap.

If someone gets a good price on one let me know. By the way, the Goop seal on top did fine. My son now drives this car and I guess we will fix it pretty soon.

(By the way, my son loves the 4Runner and it it still doing great.)

I wonder what causes the deterioration, excessive vibrations causing wear between the door and the unibody? I coated all my door seals with silicone when I bought the truck, the bottom of the driver side has always been torn up.

I wouldn't mind except I can definitely hear extra wind noise because of it, and in this brutal winter, the draft on my left side is definitely noticeable!:rain:

We found two at the junk yard for about 5$ each. Just get the passenger side ones. They are usually not worn out. It fits on both sides.

BTW - it looks like a "round" seal and not specifically molded for the door opening. I'll check to see about the holes. I guess they are for drainage if water gets in there.

I have the 2 back door seals and the front passenger side door seal in good condition that I am selling. I have already sold the seal for the rear hatch and the drivers side door seal was too beat up to sell. If interested send me a PM

We just pushed them on the door frame. Easy fix. No glue. I was really surprised at how the passengers side fit right on.

I've got a good amount of wind noise in mine, are the door seals the problem? Or is it the outer weather stripping?

Any know about the sunroof seal??

Trying figure out where the wind is getting in, it's pretty damn loud!

Yes!! Mine are considerably worse than yours....rattles some, wind intrustion, don't even try the car wash. I'm on this tomorrow!

I bought some of this stuff a couple weeks ago and did all my seals. All of mine are currently in good condition and wanted to try and keep them that way. Has great reviews and I came across it on a detailing sub via reddit. So maybe worth giving this stuff a shot if you're having issues.

Weird that this got bumped today. I was cleaning all of the contact points and seals for the windows and doors on my ‘new’ 3rd gen. Most are in pretty good shape but I am going to need a new seal for the rear glass.

I cannot, for the life of me, find the part number for that piece. It is the seal that does 180° around the rear glass, not the scraper part at the base where the wiper sits. Any help?

For anyone needing replacement door seals and not wanting to pay $150 each at the dealer, I have a set of outstanding condition seals listed in the classifieds.
