Runner Boards Off, Bed Liner Door Jams Mod

Finally got around to taking the runner boards off my 4Runner today. But then I realized that my passengers who, lets just say, aren't as mindful to not scratch the paint when getting in the car might pose a threat. So, a roll of masking tape and a spray can of truck bed liner later, I have my $8 mod of the day. *Why the pictures come out up side down, I'll never know. Sorry guys

Still need to go back and make some minor touch-ups. But I'm satisfied for today.

I did the same thing but in plasti dip over a year ago. It is still holding up well. Just have to touch it up every now and then. Too lazy to paint it for real!

I used duplicolor. It came in an aerosol can. Time will tell if it holds up but it doesn't seem too bad

I might have to steal this Idea, my dorr jambs could use a little bondo to fill the dings and this stuff holds up well, I've sprayed motorcycle pegs with it before and it doesn't scrape off.

I gotta say, when I read the title, I figured this was going to be something very tacky, but that actually turned out very nice. I'm actually going to put some thought into doing something like that as well too. Awesome job.

I really like this idea as my paint is starting to fade in these spots. I was thinking of putting grip tape there but feel like this is a more permanent solution. Is there any particular reason you did the bottom piece outside? And how did you tape off the inside? How many cans? Did you take off the plastic seals around the doors? And I know bed liner has a textured finish, is there any sort of rubbing in between the door?

I put grip tape there on mine after I removed the running boards to protect the paint a little, and provide a little more grip for any shorter person getting in. I used the 3M stuff from home depot and it has held up very well for the last 2 months or so that it has been on there.

I did the bottom piece on the outside because when I took the runner boards off, there were a couple places where they had rubbed the body of the car and scratched the paint off. In an attempt to prevent any kind of rust, I figured I would do the whole area.

I taped off the inside using a lot of newspaper to protect from overspray. I tried to keep it off the weather stripping as much as possible by tucking the tape under it, but I did not take off the weather stripping.

There is no rubbing that I have noticed so far. I did about 4 coats to build it up a bit, but not a significant amount.

I went through one full can of bedliner--but it was a larger than normal can (not a regular size spray paint can).
